Prelimanary Tests show promise

Finally got out and shot some of my first ever home swaged bullets. I made them using spent .40 S&W brass for jackets and pure soft lead for cores. They weighed in at 227 grains and I sized them down to .450 allowing for a 1 thousands spring back. I shot them through my Ruger SR1911 and they crossed the chrony at an average of around 885 FPS. They shot well fed well had zero problems, did not do any real work as far as accuracy goes but did get them on paper at 50 yrds and even managed to hit the 100 yrd gong. I did recover one from the 25 yrd burm and found another in the dirt at the 100 yrd gong. In the pics the bigger flatter one was recovered at 100 yrds and the smaller mushroom was from the 25 yrd burm. I included pics of the finished bullet and a loaded round in the pics just for comparison. Needless to say I am very happy and am looking forward to more testing. Oh yes the load was a tula LPP under 5.2 grains of bullseye in a R/P brass over all length of 1.210 well any way here's the pics hope you enjoy. Dennis [image] [image]

Could you use CCI Blazer aluminum too?

I wonder.....

I'd be leery of the aluminum cases due to the abrasive nature of aluminum oxide. Pushing a bunch of it down the bore at high pressure just doesn't make sense to me. Others may have a vastly different opinion, of course. :-D

That still cracks me up when I think of the Loony Toons type of cartoon with flying bullets that include the case. It'd be real cool to have a slow motion video of them in flight. Shucks, it'd be even MORE hilarious if there were a canelure that would make it appear to be a bullet seated in a very short case. :-D

Somewhere I have a device that will put

by Bud, Monday, February 16, 2015, 14:35 (3508 days ago) @ Paul

a cannelure on any jacketed type bullet. Wonder if I still have that darn thing.
