I went back to the gun show today to sell off some .45 Auto Rim ammo, and ended up trading it for this.

H&R 157 in .22 Hornet. It had an old Tasco 4x on it which I promptly removed. Now I have to decide on whether I find a replacement rear iron sight, or plop the sweet little old Weaver K3 I have squirreled away on it.

I have no .22 Hornet ammo, it's full-on winter right now, and we're moving to Boise in April. Once that is all in the past, I'll light it up.

You blew the Witness protection gig, again, didn't you?

Makes it easier for Cora to come down for visits, and for me to get up there. Also, we both miss the West.

Oh man. I can hear that little gun begging for that K3 all the way from here. What a sweet varmint sniper and general woods walkin' rifle!

I will wear that mantel gladly.

I passed up one of those many moons ago and it still whispers to me now and then.

And, K3 +1!! They are good glass from the past.

I will wear that mantel gladly.

A lot. I'm a sucker for old Weaver glass....especially K3's.

35gr Hornady V-Max over an appropriate amount off H-110. Amazing results.

I was worried about this when Remington bought Marlin, who had recently bought NEF.

I figured they would kill the barrel accessory program, but to 86 the whole line?

That's what I was told today. Can't find supporting

stock of H&R single-shots don't have any/many in stock. I thought that Remington treated H&R like Marlin with a separate production line. I DID find forum posts which suggest that Remington is shutting down H&R to re-brand and produce a Remington single-shot line.

I suppose that a re-design or new gun was inevitable. H&R guns (New England Arms, etc.) have gone from $120 retail to nearly $200 over the last 3-4 years. SOME of that is the devaluation of the dollar but while demand is strong customers are always astonished at the price. Many have looked at a $200 single-shot and decided to instead buy a Mossberg pump for another $100-150 (new or used).

As always whatever happens will at least be interesting if not inspiring.

Nice,I passed on one just like that about a year ago for a good price. When I went back the next day it was gone. I always wonder how it shot. Be sure to post a range report when you get around to shooting it..
