Wife wants a pistol

So I am in a huge dilemma. I think she suffers from a little carpel tunnel, and her hand strength isn't the best. She shoots my SR 1911 CMD, but I think it is too much for her, and as much as I would like another 1911 in my house, I want to find something she will actually shoot. I am leaning towards a 9mm, I was thinking a revolver, but she doesn't seem to care for them, was hoping she would take a shine to my 3" GP100, but it wasn't to be. Looking for a few recommendations, my long range quest has been holding my attention for a while now, and unfortunately, I don't know man women around here who shoot (well maybe not too unfortunate that I don't know too many women). Appreciate it gents.

Soon after I married, My wife wanted a gun. I had her try all of mine and she didn't care for any of them. So, I took her shopping and let her pick one for herself. Her choice was a Colt Government Model 380. She has been perfectly satisfied for thirty years with her choice. She wouldn't even let me put stag grips on it. She likes it just the way it is. That is a decision I will never regret.

I was most impressed with the Smith M&P Compact 9mm that Stonewalrus bought a while back. Not too big, not too small, easy to shoot and has a wonderful trigger for a DA auto. Another friend of mine has a Ruger SR9C that is pretty slick, too.
If she prefers a single-action autoloader, Springfield makes a mini 1911 in 9mm, and I believe Colt is resuming production of the alloy-frame Commander in 9mm.

I've heard good things about the Springfield. I have an LC9 that I really like but it has a bit of recoil being that it's lighter. What is she wanting it for?
Sounds like a shopping trip is in order...

Take her to a local gun store or three and let her handle the diverse models for herself. If possible, arrange for her to shoot one or two "finalists" so she can have a better idea before committing to the final purchase.
Exactly. There are a BUNCH of good serviceable

Worst you can say about some of them..

Is that they might be hard to find spare mags for. Some mail-order house somewhere is bound to have some if you need them,
Thank you gentlemen!

I have a Sig 938. A 15 ounce 9MM that is like a small 1911. Single action. Carried cocked and locked. Not sure of her recoil sensitivity and I can't judge since I have shot for so long I do not notice recoil very much. I think it is the best of the mini 9MM's.
Thank you gentlemen!

With wings that flip out to help rack the slide.
I have a Soringfield XDS in 45. You might have her take

A look at the 9 mm version. It is a single stack pistol she could probably handle. I pocket carry mine a fair amount of the time.

I have an XDs 9 and found the trigger heavy enough that the gun is hard to shoot well. My XD9 Compact has a much better trigger, CC's well for me and shoots well. The new Mod 2 is worth looking at.
Have her try on of these little beauties out.

Looks like the real huckleberry to me. All she would ever need! She could carry it in her pocket and nobody would ever know.
Seriously though, what she want a sidearm for?
Target shooting? Then a .22 match pistol is to only way to go.
Personal defense? Compact 9mm is the only way to go.
Before the .45 fans pile-on, just tap your brakes for a second. With high performance modern ammo there is no real difference between any of the service pistol rounds in effectiveness.
Plinking? Compact 9mm would be just fine. A mid sized .38/.357 would be better.
FYI. If she does decide to carry make sure that she is properly trained up and that does not mean a CCW class. That will just get her in trouble if she ever decides that she needs to pull the gun. Given that the generally liability of presenting a gun in a social setting can easily run into hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees and civil settlements, if you can't come up with a couple of grand to get properly trained up you probably should carry in the first place. Just don't go to dumb places and do dumb things with dumb people and things will almost always be fine. Study Ayoob's books. CYA

Possible Carpal Tunnel ... doesn't like revolvers ...You want a shooting buddy ... end use of gun not defined .... All this spells a short barrel Ruger Mk. II or III to me.

It occurred to me then, that it might make a good introductory or beginners gun. When asked to 'teach' the J-frame 4" .22 has worked OK: single action mode. However, that LW auto may be a more familiar object to the Modern Miss.
Ruger just announced this....

Once I get her trained up, and she is very comfortable, it will be for home defense, for when I am TDY or Deployed, or just out hunting.
