Savage 99 C question

by Gary G, Saturday, February 07, 2015, 09:55 (3518 days ago)

Have a local guy who has a 99 C in 308 WIN.

As a rule how slick are the actions on these rifles and how bad (or good) are the triggers.

Cannot reach him for a few days so I cannot ask. But what was the barrel length on this model.
As you can tell I have never been around one. Thank for any help.

I never saw one that run really well. Spent a week last year getting one barely functional for a good friend. My advice is to wait for one with the internal mag, if you really want a 99.

also ck the head spacing on it I had a 300 savage blow up on me because of excessive head spacing. Look at the locking block and see if the metal is compressed, If it is stay away. J.Michael

If you want a Savage 99 but don't want to spend

the sometimes big bucks of the collectible guns, look for a 99 made in the 1973 era, a 99A or later 99E. My 99As are good guns, maybe without the cachet of the pre-1-million guns and with a tang safety but certainly better than many other guns today.

One is a .250-3000 and the other a .308 Win. Now follows gratuitous, self-congratulatory sharing of photos...
