A wee bit overkill...............

by Gunner @, St Louis, Sunday, December 21, 2014, 18:44 (3565 days ago)

Last month I ran a knife sale to help raise funds to replace my bench top drill press, it was under powered, 1/3hp and almost 20 years old. Trying to drill accurate holes had become, well an issue, so it needed to be replaced. Instead of just buying a nice, powerful, accurate drill press I thought something a little bigger might be in order.....

Grizzly 0758 Mini mill, a bit overkill for sure but it opens up lots of options in the shop, not only with knife making but metal projects also. But it causes problems itself, I need to come up with money to buy tooling for metal working, never end does it :-|

Spent part of the afternoon today updating the web site....

Added a new knife to the available page and one to the blem page....

Over is better than under...and you will find good uses for it's extra capabilities.

Oh, if I had a mill like THAT...

Me too! I picked up an old Atlas 9x36" lathe last summer. I was just starting to get decent with it but had to shove it in the corner to make room for the jeep project. I'm hoping the jeep is under its own power in the next month or so and I can move the lathe back out and get more practice with it!

I've wanted a little table top mill for awhile. Maybe when we move I'll have a bigger garage or a pole barn I can put something like that (or bigger) in and have some real fun!!

That's overkill?

by Brian A, Wednesday, December 24, 2014, 13:51 (3563 days ago) @ Gunner

I have a Bridgeport with a 48" table, two lathes (10"x24" and 12"x36"), a surface grinder, TIG and MIG welders, etc., just for fun.

That's overkill?...Kinda

by Gunner @, St Louis, Thursday, December 25, 2014, 06:50 (3562 days ago) @ Brian A

For me and what I need, it is kind of over kill. Believe me if I could have afforded it I would have bought a big Bridgeport, then it would've been overkill for sure, maybe someday if I sell a boat load of knives I can get one.

I don't believe in overkill...

Unless one is using a 155mm howitzer to take whitetails they intend to eat. If it is within someone's budget without taking necessities away from anyone else, and they want it, then all is good. Hopefully you will enjoy your new machine for many years and it will do all you want and more.
