Elmer Keith Museum auction...

I predict really frenzied bidding.

It really shows where Julia thinks the money is

by cubrock, Monday, December 15, 2014, 13:56 (3620 days ago) @ Rob Leahy

in this auction that they played up and showed a picture of the tiger hunter double rifle, but gave not even a full sentence to the Number 5.

It would almost be worth the drive to the preview just to get to see the guns. Maine is closer than Idaho, anyway.

Double Guns are the 'new' stylish' among monied folks

by John Meeker @, United States, Monday, December 15, 2014, 16:06 (3620 days ago) @ cubrock

who know who went on safari and bragged about his 'kill' and the expensive gun he used. And, indeed, any veteran of DoubleGuns-dottie-karma can testify to the astronomical upward curve of the associated firearms. What was once more or less a concern of people whom you and I would have some common factors, the 'my toy is mo' bettuh than y'r paltry little example crow-crowd' appears to have overshadowed the scholars and quiet appreciators of the finest of craftsmanship. To Julia, it is this crowd and The Names with which they are far more familair, and see the money. who was elsmer? To us, The World, so to speak. So, I do hope He kicks the Noo-vOOO bunch right down the bidding alley. But we know that our world, it's heroes, and it's inhabitants are a rare and wonderful place that has beter people and better manners than 99% of the livng humansd on this planet. good-enuff for me, thank you,.

True...

I can see where that double gun could be the gun in that lot that goes for the highest amount, but I could also see a couple well-heeled Texans or some such bidding that Number 5 up into the stratosphere. It just surprised me they didn't even have a pic of the Number 5 on their page.

I'm still wondering about a trip to Maine. 'Tis a 16 hour drive for me. Could even visit Kittery Trading Post while I am up that way. :)

Kittery..if you go, save some cash....dessert course ;~;)

by John Meeker @, United States, Monday, December 15, 2014, 16:50 (3620 days ago) @ cubrock

they always had some nice goods, and were a good place to snag an undervalued bargain.

If you go, swing up my way and I'll ride with you :-)

by matt/pa @, Monday, December 15, 2014, 19:23 (3620 days ago) @ cubrock

we can share expenses. It would indeed be worth it just to see them, and maybe even handle them, one last time, before they disappear who knows where.

Will do, Matt

There are a lot of things that will have to fall into place to make it work, but if that happens, I'll let you know. I wouldn't be going to bid - just look and fondle (and go to Kittery Trading Post, where I could probably find something I could afford).

If I go, I might take TLA K1 along to compare the two. Might call Julia's first to see if I can photo the two together, a la JT. Or just me holding both guns. Doubt they'd allow it, but you never know.

I'M GUESSING THE CORBETT RIFLE WILL

by SIXGUNNER, Monday, December 15, 2014, 17:37 (3620 days ago) @ cubrock

BRING A HALF-MILLION; THE #5 $100,000 OR MORE

I wouldn't have guessed that on the Corbett rifle

by cubrock, Monday, December 15, 2014, 17:45 (3620 days ago) @ SIXGUNNER

I knew it was a six-figure gun, but I didn't think that high. However, I know little about double gun values, especially ones with a history like this one.

Another forum brother was asking my opinion on what the #5 would bring - I opined $100K, give or take $20K. Just a semi-educated wild guess. :)

I wouldn't have guessed that on the Corbett rifle

by Fowler, Monday, December 15, 2014, 20:56 (3619 days ago) @ cubrock

I am sticking with my guess of $125k on the #5.

I have heard through the grapevine that there is a well heeled bidder determined to own both the #5 and the Corbett rifle. Who knows
