Problem with new-to-me Buntline

Picked up a second generation (1957) Buntline Special Saturday afternoon and took it to a local match Sunday. Shot well, 29/30 hits, and the one miss was obviously my mistake.

However, I noticed this when I was taking it apart for cleaning -- when I cock the hammer to the second click, the bolt does not sit flat in the cylinder frame. I can get the cylinder out OK, but when I tried to finagle it back into the frame, it seemed to get stuck. I then noticed the problem with the bolt, blocking it from getting back into the frame.

I discovered that the bolt would go down to the proper position if I pressed on it with a finger. In that position, I slipped the cylinder back into place and the gun seemed to work OK after that -- I cocked the gun and eased the hammer down several times.

My question to the many Colt SA aficionados who hang out here: Is this a serious problem? What's the cause? And better yet, what's the solution?

Have OM Ruger with same problem. Bolt was so worn it wouldn't stop where it was supposed to. Replaced the bolt is fine now. Don't know if Colt would be the same.

Thanks. I am thinking of calling the gun shop where I bought it, and asking them if this is covered under their warranty.

Before I made any decisions I would take out all the internals and clean and lubricate the handgun. Lots do crud can get into the insides in 57 years.

Good idea. Gun's almost as old as me and I probably need a good internal cleaning, too!

Thanks for the suggestion. I will have it checked out at the gunstore.
