Opinions please: Recoil Pads

by Hoot @, Diversityville, Liberal-sota, Wednesday, October 29, 2014, 07:51 (3619 days ago)

I am thinking of restocking my Savage 110 to get a little better design for handling recoil. I've had good luck with Boyd's stocks in the past so am thinking of heading down that road again. They offer both the Limbsaver as well as Kick-Eez. Any opinions as to which way to go?

Thanks!

I used Decelerators...

up until about a year ago, when I tried my first Limb Saver on the 11-87. Peggi didn't like the gun until I changed the pad out and now she will shoot 25-50 clays in an afternoon w/it.

Only for girls & girlish men...

I haven't fit one in years, but they work great. Use plenty of oil on the screw driver after you make the razor slice and keep plenty of oil in the slice while you tighten the screws, and the slice will all but disperser afterwards.

I have both brands.

"Six in one, half a dozen the other."

Though they do make different models, some thicker, softer, slicker, so that would influence the choice depending on which they offer.

I have both brands.

pachmyre decelerators

Any of them...

by mcassill, Wednesday, October 29, 2014, 18:42 (3619 days ago) @ Hoot

would be a vast improvement over what is on that rifle now. :jawdrop:

Limbsaver and Kick-Eze both.....

by Otony, Wednesday, October 29, 2014, 20:20 (3619 days ago) @ Hoot

......seem more effective to me than Decelerators. However, both also deteriorate or collapse quicker than the Pachmayr products. That makes sense of course, softer, more resilient compounds would naturally seem to be less durable over the long haul.

As one other fellow posted, any of the three would be a major improvement over what the 110 came with.

Good call! I store mine the same way.

Especially considering that the 110 in question...

is an 8-pound 416 Taylor. My shoulder still hurts from shooting that thing...

It is a bit rude, isn't it?

Those were low end loads as well. 400gr @ 2150 or so. We can crank 'em up for you...

That gun got your attention for sure. The recoil was

more than Mark's 458 Win Mag. CZ.

Thank you gentlemen.

Between here and general 'net chatter, it seems like either/or will do. I'll put a call into Boyd's and get their input with regard to exactly which model(s) they are using and go from there. Like Mark mentions, ANYTHING would be an improvement!
