Semi-OT: Can a game camera spend 'off duty' time as a...
security camera? Mount it to the garage and see who, if any, spends time in my driveway sort of thing. I did the google-fu on 'security cameras' and, man-o-man, there's stuff out there. I don't need most of it and was thinking that a game camera does what I want and I can use it for scouting as well. Any downside to that thought?
I know several people....
...who are doing exactly that
Ed does it and has caught several Ne'er do well's
nosing around. Our neighbor in Nimrod uses one expressly for that purpose.
The newest thing I've seen in game cameras locally...
My cable company also provides a cell phone service. I was paying my bill a few weeks ago and noticed they had game cams for sale. I was a bit confused for a moment and asked "Does it send a picture to your phone as soon as it is taken or something?"
Yep, soon as it snaps the picture it sends it to your phone.
And you're right about a plethora of various security cams being available in todays world and a very reasonable price.

Sure you can use it on your property to catch criminals in the act and to just keep on eye on things. If you lived in NY, you could use it to catch the local police department stealing anti-(un)SafeAct signs:

My brother does it all the time
When we were having trespassers at odd hours of the night we had one out. I think the flash made them think twice. Make sure it is high enough it can't be easily stolen. There are some that send a wireless signal and you can pick them up on a laptop.
I like that idea!
Not only for the timely information, but also for an archival copy stored somewhere other than the camera.
Thanks fellas!

Spy-Cam
It is a little pricey, $350 to $400 range but there is one that will transmit your pictures to a hidden remote memory card so when the BG steals your camera you can see who it was. I have lost one camera, it was older and the display didn't work so whoever took it will have a hard time setting it up :')
Hey, good to see you post!
come back some more and tell us about it

They work well that way...
And high end cameras have some nice features. I have found a couple on sale for as low as $30, and picked up one at a garage sale for $10. Currently have five set up at various places around the house for security purposes, probably going to set a few in the woods over the next couple weeks for deer scouting.
Have four up for several years now
One down driveway, one up driveway at front of house, one at carport, one in back. I like the small Bushnell that use 4 AA's. All have locks, all have rechargeable batteries.
Hey Keith!
Good to see you.
How are things going? I lost your e-mail somewhere. Could I trouble you to drop a note to: hoot_4570 -AT- yahoo -DOT- com? Thanks!
