Pistols for Leftys
Friend stopped by today and asked if I knew of a pistol suitable for a left handed shooter; he has a Glock in 40S&W but recently found that he is left eye dominant. He wondered about the S&W M&P but I have no experience with them.
Suggestions?

The M&Ps are set up with ambi slide release, and the mag release can be converted to the opposite side easily.
I have the M&P Compact with the ambi safety
And slide release. Excellent gun for a lefty like me. It comes without the safety as well. The Crimson Trace laser does NOT work with an ambi safety. Found out the hard way. I made it work with some judicious filing but would not recommend it.
I'm a lefty and a Glock works for me
You just learn to use the index and second finger instead of the thumb for several things.

I'm right handed but left eye dominant, so I practice using both hands. Out of the guns I have the Glock (I have the 27) is the most lefty friendly, I have shot a Kimber CDP which is more of a 1911 style if your friend is into that style but with an ambidextrous safety.
easier to shoot right handed, even with a cross dominant eye

He does right well right handed. The one that drove him
Crazy was a Charles Daly Hi Power. It had a shallow v rear and a lollipop front. Dad's old eyes did well with it but he couldn't hit with it.
I have been left handed all my life :-)
and was born into a world where no accommodations were made for left handed people. I learned to live in a right handed world and that included all firearms. After a period of time, it ceases to be a matter of concern. When left handed and ambi firearms came on the scene, they seemed awkward to me.
I shoot all manner of handguns including the Glock and don't feel handicapped at all. I would suggest your friend just adjust to shooting with his left hand and not worry about it.

Is the friend
right handed , left eye dominant
or
Left eye dominant left handed?
Pistols for Leftys
Right handed, left eye dominant with vision probs in the left eye.

Oh then anything with adjustable sights should be fine. I find the three dot rear sight to be easiest with me being right handed but left eye dominant.

What I am going to suggest is baed on the fact that left eye vision does not preclude you sighting with that eye.
Holding the pistol as you would to shoot right handed, right eye.
Move the pistol over to line up with the left eye and sight on the target
Dry fire like this first to get over the weird feeling.
Load 4-5 rounds in 4-5 magazines and fire slowly with great deliberation.
Determine it it is muscle/eyes/sighting memory you could build with practice.
If so dry firing between range sessions is your friend.
If it doe not work for you do what I do, shoot right handed and live with lower level of precision.

Much appreciate your insight guys.

I took a fellow through every pistol in the place and
he left with a Glock, a 21. The important stuff is ambidextrous, the slide lock close enough.
