22 Revolvers again

by Art @, Littleton, Colorado, Friday, September 26, 2014, 10:10 (3700 days ago)

Thanks for all of the replys. I was asking not for CCW (I have several for that purpose starting with 9MM). I was thinking one for a kit gun. I have a Ruger Single Six convertible but it is too heavy for what I was thinking. Have plenty of handguns and am now looking into speciality ones.

If you can find one a High Standard Sentinel makes a pretty

Good little kit gun for not a lot of money. Mine has a 3" barrel for a little extra sight radius.

High Standard Sentinels...

..are excellent, lightweight 22 revolvers that make perfect woods-beaters or pack guns. I invariably have to beat/file the sights to get then 'on' but find it worth the effort.

15 yards, a cylinder-full of Federal 36 grain bulk HP's.

When 22 ammo isn't such a premium I need to do more

by stonewalrus, Friday, September 26, 2014, 17:15 (3700 days ago) @ Sarge

Serious work with mine to see what it can do. The feel of the grips on Sentinels is great. My BIL has one of the newer ones in 22 mag I have tried to talk him out of. Mine is the first generation R1. Double action pull is pretty stiff. Any remedies for that?

Couple options, I recently picked up the bearcat shopkeeper that's a great little shooter. One note it did take a little polishing of the chambers of the cylinder so the shells would eject due to the short ejector rod. But after that it's great. The other snubby 22 I've tried is my buddy's Ruger LCR in 22LR, has the feel of a 38 (if you don't like the feel of the small 22's like the NAA's) but no recoil of course. It also comes in 22 mag.

And yes I am biased towards Rugers

I sure wish the Bearcats came with an adjustable rear sight. I know that a S&W J frame rear can be fited but proably doubles the price. Never know but Ruger is really putting out products that we never dreamed of when Bill and his son were around.

Years ago I was offered a used Pathfinder and took it with the understanding I could test drive it. It worked out well as I was going to the range that afternoon after work.

Walked up to the firing line and dropped 6 Federal NO MEDAL Match rounds in the cylinder and lined up on a clay pigeon that just happened to be lying there on the 25 yard line. cocked the hammer and sent the bullet down range. Now there were two halfs of a clay pigeon, two follow-up shots took care of them.

I took it.

Later I go a chance to buy a second and it was almost as good. As luck would have it the front sight fell off of both of them. It looked like they were soldiered on and the soldier stuck to the barrel and not the sight.

Do you still have them?

by Catoosa, Saturday, September 27, 2014, 20:57 (3699 days ago) @ RidinLou

If so, how did you stick the sights back on?

That sounds like a job for J-B. I have put sights on 12 gauge slug guns with J-B, and they are still on there after years of use.

and so do I. I've found the perfect woods, hiking, fishing, camping, etc handgun. It is a Kaltec PMR30. The new ones have all the bugs worked out..don't buy a used one, but stay with the latest. It's 19 ozs loaded with 28 rds of 22Mag (says you can use 30 rds, but not really). Comes with 2 30 rd clips. Using solids or HP's it will do the job on everything you need as a carry gun in the woods.

I thought we could not have more then 15 round mags. Am I wrong with 22 Cal? On another subject in a previous post you mentioned to Mr. Fowler about him buying powder at GMG. I have done more business there then I care to admit going back to the mid to late 80's. I am in there almost weekly and have known Keith, his Mom and most of the other boys for a long time. Best gun store ever. Proably been in there at the same time as you.

I AGREE! The PMR 30 is great. I broke my rule & bought

Rob, have you ever tried the .22 WRF in your PMR 30? Just wondering if the shorter, lower powered round would work in it.

If it would, I might oughta look around for one. I shoot the WMR a bunch in my Single Six, and like it very much.

Art...I also know Keith, Sue, etc.

GMG is my go to gunshop too? I've been hanging out there since 1982...lived in Lakewood, but now up near Conifer. Bill lives further out near Pine. I have found some nice treasures at GMG over the years. You can always get a deal there..better than going to the gunshows fer sure.

The first PMR30 I fired

by Bud, Tuesday, September 30, 2014, 12:03 (3696 days ago) @ Bud

was Robs. It was the 1st one I ever saw. I fell for it right away and had to have one.
