Noticed Jeff and Boge's re-port on the new Marlins;;;;;;
Pretty sure everyone has their own idea of a "hot' new Marlin product. Personally, I am currently adequately 1894'd. As well, SS Rossi/Puma is on the back burner until I fill a couple of other 'holes'. A few recent articles on the lever-action as a traveling gun, or family gun. pretty much are informing folks of it's versatility.
How'emsoever -- "What if" Marlin turned out a 16 1/2" SS 1894? Not just turned out, but designed for the Rugged Gun market? What would that mean to the mfg? First of all, a bead-blast/ matte finish is fine. Secondly: a brown 'non-tonking" synthetic stock, perhaps with ammo or cleaning kit capability, with good swivel mounts, that maybe 'swiveled' Thirdly: some sort of sturdy, fold-down Express sight, with an equally rugged front bead -- look at the after market stuff for inspiration. Not crudely done, all this, but also designed to cost-save and hit an apparently 'hot niche'
Just off the top o'me head -- no blinding flash of inspiration. Just thinking of a domestic, quality version of the assorted custom & SS 92's out there.
Off to a job, but given the gathered gun-i-ness here, a 'build your own 94/336' suggestions' strin
g of inspirations, might filter it's way up the marketing chain.
An 18", straight stocked 336T...
in 35 Rem or 356 Winchester.
Made like the old ones dammit, or don't bother.
I couldn't find/want to afford a .356 so...
I had one built on a Marlin 30AS. Currently sports the 20" tube but have been thinking on chopping it back. It has the pistol grip. I really, really like the straight grips but the 'angle of the dangle' does not work for me...something to do with how my trigger finger relates to the trigger.
Dropped a 300+ lb. sow this spring using the 200gr FTX. She humped up at the shot, turned about 90 deg and fell like a stone. Bullet was recovered after traversing through about 30" of pig; perfectly mushroomed and around 160gr or so.
I think I'll treat this one to some nicer wood.
Cool... who did the work, Hoot?
??

Good guys, good work, good prices but at least he's fast. I really can't say enough good about them. $225 for rebore (3-groove) and rechamber and return shipping. I think it was about $25 to send it out plus $175 for the rifle in the first place so I'm into it on the cheap.
I ended up with a pretty tall front sight with a Williams FP on the back but it puts those FTX's into nice little clusters.
There will probably end up being two replies but...
here goes anyway.

Good guys, good work, good prices but at least he's fast. I can't say enough good about them. I spoke with him quite a bit about the 3, 4 & 5 groove options and it was his opinion that it didn't matter. So I channeled my Inner Scotsman and went with the 3-groove. I haven't shot too many different bullets but it sure likes the FTX's.
I have 3 or 4 more projects in mind for him; hopefully in the near future.
