Wanted: Heavy duty beauty moving slow and quiet.
Just ordered 100 238 grain 30 cal cast bullets from Hunter's Supply. Going for a near subsonic suppressor load out of my 17 inch Mark X Mauser 30-06. Going to start with 21 grains of 4227, which is shown as the starting load for a 200 gr cast (19,100 psi) in the Lyman book. Hoping the 1 in 10 will stabilize that long a bullet at least out to 100 yards. If it doesn't I'll step back to the 217 gr cast. Yall see any significant problems in that reasoning.
I don't have any direct experience which would help but...
it sounds like a good approach to me. I also wonder about using some of those slooooow surplus powders might get you there. Either way, I'd be interested to hear your results.
