Plated bullets and gas ports...

A friend is asking if he can use Ranier's/Berry's plated bullets in his Ruger .44 carbine, at lead velocities, without worrying about plugging the gas port.

I've never done it and don't know. What do you think?

Thanks!

240s, loaded to magnum level

My experience with the original carbine was lighter and heavier bullets, and lighter loaded 240s, caused cycling problems.

I can't remember if we used soft points, but HP of the day and lots of FMJ were fine.
