You guys are a bad influence...
The 7 1/2" Ruger Blackhawk in 45 followed me home today. Today the shop had a pristine stainless one for $75 more with a 5 1/2" barrel but after handling both I went long and blued. The stainless had sharp checkered grips on it and the blued had pachys. May have to do something about the pachys but they are ok for now. A part of me says a single action needs to be blued steel. The gun has a few blemishes in the bluing but doesn't look like it has been shot much and it has not been abused. I'll try to get a picture of it this weekend. Nothing fancy but I have wanted one for years - now my Single Six has a big brother. That Single Six I bought back in 1981 and was my first handgun.
Hah! Very nice, I think you have met the buy 10 get 1 free
goal: I have a Cross draw Cattleman holster that will fit that if you want it.

I was wondering what would be the best way to carry it. Crossdraw kind of makes sense. If you are serious it would be greatly appreciated. Don't forget I am a lefty though.

I waited about 25 years before buying a 45 Colt (Ruger OM 7.5") and quickly it replaced the 44 Mag for frequent use. More is even better.
My first 45 was an Astra revolver a few years back
That's when I figured out I would rather shoot a 45 than a 357.
I hope it will shoot as well for you as the Astra does
If you think of it bring the cylinder tomorrow and I will run pin gages through it over the weekend.
In a single action I find the Pachys get pretty unfriendly with full power loads in my guns.
I may have a set of Ruger grips that may fit it, and they are dinged up enough they look the part of "worn hard" old west gun.
I will make you a left hand cross draw

Not sure what grips will be good
Checked on the Ruger website - apparently it is a first year new model, 1974. Don't know if that is good or bad.
Factory wood wo4rks great...Or some nice Bull Shooters
stocks from Dick Thompson.

Done told ya - stags!
Vita brevis, non mal visu arma!
That would be mighty generous of you sir
Tom, is this your first Blackhawk?
Just answer the question and we'll go from there....
Tom, is this your first Blackhawk?
Yes. I have had its baby brother (Single Six) since I got out of college but this is my first Blackhawk.
Well, in that case...
I'll bring some grip panels for you to CSA.
I suspected as much!
Now, I have to up my game...

I'd be tickled to have them. Thank you.

Checked the Cylinder Throats
Looks like 5 at 0.455" AND ONE A TIGHT 0.456".
The Astra was bigger and it shoots well with Lee 255 grainer sized to 0.454".
What size are the cast you have?
I do not think I have any of the Lee's cast up.
I have no idea on them and will have to check
