Turbotax beware

If you are thinking About using the Turbotax free version, forget it. Once you. Have all your stuff entered, they charge you $29.99 to file. There are thousands of people complaining. There is some sort of bait and switch in the software.

Just out of curiosity . . .

. . . after you enter all your data, does it go ahead and run all the calculations for you and show you the final result prior to asking for money? And if so, could you print it out at that point and use it as a guide to fill out a 1040 longhand?

Nah, I'd think they anticipated that and disallowed it.

But ya never know . . .

all it tells you is how much your refund will be

I think if as you are entering data it sees an EZ form won't work it automatically bumps you into deluxe without really warning you.

I use TurboTax and I don't mind paying the fee for e-file; using their online forms is easy and convenient. If you want free tax forms, you can get them from the local library.

I probably would have used them anyway

I just don't appreciate doublespeak where they say it's free and switch you in the course of filing.
