......where you will find a plethora, nay, a gazillion older pump field guns. Many will be old enough to NOT have interchangeable chokes, and thus inexpensive. Quite a few will be old enough to perhaps not have a vent rib. Pick one of this if possible. Buy a clean Remington/Mossberg/Winchester/High Standard/etc. Cut the barrel to something between 18 and 24", mount a new bead that is big and outrageously noticeable.

Made by the millions, can be found everywhere. Older plain barrel guns in perfect working shape can still be found for $200 and under. They sold me in my gunsmithing days. Tough as nails, yet dead simple to work on, with cheap replacement parts that can also be found anywhere. Working and truck guns would come into the shop having endured ubeliveable abuse and dirty conditions. Clean 'em up, oil 'em up, and send them back out working fine for another 10 years. Hoard up a spare trigger group, and a few other cheap and easy to fine parts, and they are truely a lifetime shotgun.

22" barrel and fiber optic bead front with a small open rear sight with fiber optic beads, vented rib. Paid less than $200. It is a copy of the Remington 870 with as good or better steel. Does not take Remington barrels or chokes. I feel adequately armed. I leave an improved cylinder choke in it and have an extra full for hunting. You can spot them in a store rack - have a distinctive hump at the back of the receiver.

You just can`t go wrong with a 870 Wingmaster or Express,

I've had many 870's and 500's and have had good luck with both. Honestly I prefer the 870, but for no good reason. The Marines have been using various Mossbergs of or years and they are notorious for braking stuff like anvils, hammers, rocks, etc... I just picked up a scraped up Mossbergs 500 with a fully rifled, ported slug barrel and a 30" full choke smooth bore for $150. You can probably guess what'll happen to that long tom tube!

Are you asking for yourself down there or someone up here? If for you, what's available to you down there? Up heretic here are lots of deals on older Savages, Stevens, etc. fort he most bang for your buck, go with a 500 or 870" then you can get a spare barrel or two and use it for many purposes.
