and another knife , i felt i couldnt pass up in a recent
auction.
i have a folding bowie from the 1870s, and have posted a picture of it before, but this one is way fancier . it really is not all that practical compared to a fixed blade knife, but ..... well.... i couldnt resist it.
should match up nice with a remington style derringer or a colt or remington conversion revolver.
Very cool...
My Grandfather had one like that he carried deer hunting sometimes. Cannot read the markings on the blade in your pics and it has been years since I last saw my Grandfather's, just remember it was made in Germany. He used to claim was just the ticket for field dressing big game, in the folded position it handled most chores and was not too unwieldy, and opened up, it reached deep into the chest cavity to cut the windpipe easily. Practical, or not, it is pretty cool, and would be just the thing to carry when hunting with an Oberndorf sporter, or Mannlicher/Schoenauer carbine.
it is german made, Schlieper brand. an interesting
design.

I'll be darned I picked one of these up while in Germany back in the early 60's kind of handy in a way and good conversation piece as well. Traded some thermal underwear for it. ATB
they are quite valuable now; you did good !
Have been thinking...
My Dad still has the knife and some of the old hunting clothes. Next year I may be spending time in the woods with all equipment and clothing straight from the late '40s.
i like that... i try to do my adventures in similar
fashion.
