Israel
The wife and I are heading to Israel for 10 days starting tomorrow. We're both really looking forward to the trip. I hope they don't bomb Iran while we're there. If they do, I'll try to get pictures! Anyhow, try to keep the politicians straight while I'm gone.

Business or pleasure?
I'm sure you're aware of this, but Jerusalem is not a place you should wander about without guidance.
Masada is impressive. Tel Aviv is really cool. I would avoid the Golan Heights, obviously, and unfortunately... it is really beautiful there.
Enjoy!
Business or pleasure?
Pleasure. Going on a guided trip with a group from the United Methodist Mississippi Conference. Really looking forward to it.

Israel - We'll be following you next month so take care of
everything for us. Things are not going to get better there so we are going and trusting the Lord for a great trip. May your trip be great and rewarding. Lets hear from you when you return, still hae some questions for someone that's made the trip.
how many guns are you taking?
I don't think I'm strong enough to carry all the guns I would want to carry if I visited a place like that.
(just kidding, mostly, but please enjoy your trip)
Think very hard before going anywhere near the Sinai
Most of the major attractions in Israel are usually quiet. Both sides of the 'discussion' actually try to keep it that way. There's too much tourist money at stake.
But the closer you get to Egypt right now?
Yeeee.
It is a pilgrimage. Enjoy.

For a less filtered version of the situation there, check

Also
www.stratfor.com - less specific focus on the middle east, but clearly Israel/Egypt/Syria/Lebanon are hot spots right now, not to mention Iran and the Strait, etc. etc etc.
Do like the Israelis and make the best of every opportunity to enjoy yourselves.

Avoid any food not marked kosher. Most is, but what isn't could really spoil your trip. BTW, except in the very best of hotel restaurants catering to non-jews. you are very unlikely to find shellfish of any kind or pork. However, the beef "bacon" is usually well worth having. Also, if you order any beef done rare you will likely get very strange looks.
Israel
I've been over there twice, on business, once in 2000 and once in 2001. On the first trip we were able to visit the holy lands in Bethlehem and Jerusalem. If you get a good tour guide, his knowledge will make the trip MUCH more enjoyable.

We went with a tour group and had a very good teacher/guide. It was a wonderful trip, except for the 12 hour plane trip back! I think we'll be going again someday, but I don't plan on stepping on another airplane for at least a year.
