I bought a "supplemental" concealed carry gun......
today. I will start practicing with it starting tomorrow. I don't intend it to replace my Kel-Tec P32 front-left-pants-pocket gun (with a cartridge in the chamber). This will be an additional gun in the right-front-coat-pocket. I won't always have my coat on, but when I do, it will be close at hand. I have checked and it will fit easily in that pocket of any coat I own.
The new gun is a LNIB S&W 642-2, 5-shot, 38Special, airweight, covered-hammer, J-frame with a 2" barrel. I would have been able to reach it in the situation described previously.
Between the two of them, I should have something I can reach in the future.
No snag, no drag.
And you shoot through a pocket if need be.

A very wise decision.
I have ham sized hands and getting into a front jeans pocket, isn't an easy proposition. Make that double if I'm seated.
And, food for thought for those who may think carrying two guns is a bit paranoid. No it isn't. We have no say so-in when and where we may be called upon to defend our life or the lives of our loved ones.
Many things can happen during an altercation beyound our control. Anywhere from fending off an attacker who is bigger and stronger with your strong arm (which is typically the one we also use to shoot with), to being pinned down to the ground and unable to access your weapon.
I never was one to stand around with my hands in my pockets for no reason. More and more these days, I have a tendacy to do just that when standing in line waiting for something at various places.

I commonly carry two on trips
One in my pocket (Elsie Pea) and one in an iwb on my hip - 9mm M&P compact. Commonly havemy hand in my pocket so I figure Elsie and backup up of the 9 once I can get to it. Although Elsie is getting upstaged by my Airweight 38 a lot these days.
That's how I used to carry...
My little Taurus Ultralite as well...until it got usurped by the better half when she got her CHL. It's an ok gun but I'd like to replace it with 2 pre lock Smith J's or a couple LCR's...one for me, one for her :)
That's how I used to carry...
old 442 and no-lock 642.

Shot 80 rounds this morning. The first 30 were target wadcutters to get used to it. The following were 25 rounds of one type of +P and 25 rounds of a different type of +P handloads. All worked well. The last type of +P worked better than the other and the group was fairly close to the point of aim. The hand was just a little bit tender after 50 rounds of +P, but nothing too bad.
One Problem...
...with a coat gun. What happens if you go to a party or a nice dinner where someone takes your coat?
Had that happen to me once before. I had to excuse myself right away & make an early exit. There were children at the party & all I could think of was my unguarded handgun falling into the wrong hands.

I have "decoated" at the car and then gone inside...
I have also chose to temporarily use the pants pocket. Yours is a valid concern.
