S&W 629-6 3" bbl 44 mag ported, Perf Center gun
Recently took this one in. Debating whether to keep it or move it. 44 mag, 3" factory ported barrel, Performance Center gun. Great, smooth action. This is a later gun so it has the MIM parts and internal lock, though the lock was removed by prior owner and filled in (I have the original lock parts). No box or papers. Prior owner said he fired on cylinder full of factory ammo through it and that was it.
Even though they have the S&W medallions in them, the grips appear to be aftermarket to me. They are N-Frame grips but don't fit well and would need to be relieved on the inside to better fit behind the trigger guard.
If it was a 45 Colt, there we be no debate. I am just not a 44 mag guy, I prefer the 45 Colt or 44 special. I have a 3" Ruger GP-100 Clements conversion to 44 Special, so it fits the same category as this gun, but is a 5-shot.
Neat gun. I am usually not ambivalent about sixguns, I either like one or I don't. Not sure on this one yet.
Just thought I'd share, in case one of you wants it badly enough to talk me out of it

What would this one be worth?
Looking at the S&W forum and past GB auctions...
It seems like right around $1K is what they go for...

Ks, I think.
Usually when the grips come up short on the heel like that on an N-frame, they are K-frame grips. You might try them on one just to see.

Looks like he did a really nice job...
of plugging the lock hole. I think today's Smiths are some of the best ever except for that lock. Everyone seems terrified to market a kit to plug one and I've contemplated doing it myself. If that popper had an adjustable rear sight it would be tempting but I'm with Elmer Keith on fixed hog wallow type sights...they don't belong on any of my guns...except my 1917 Colt...but, nobody asked me so I'll shut up:)

I wish somebody would do a review on installing "The Plug". I have a couple of 500's and a Governor, which were never available pre-lock, and would like to know what I'm getting into by deleting the lock.
Does it leave a wide open gap next to the hammer where the flag is?
I've thought the best answer might be to remove the flag, mill off the lock stud, and reinstall.
