Bubba'd Colt 1917
Picked up this pathetic pitted pony this morning at a local show. Now where are all my moon clips?
I see a shortened barrel and modified hammer spur......
....but what isn't clear is if the grip frame has been altered. Also, what was done to the front sight?
May I inquire what you had to give for it?
Otony
It has been roundbutted,
The front sight is a little half moon jobby brazed on.
I gave $225 for it. It seems to run fine. It was just too ugly to not take home.

You did great! If you ever get tired of it, let me know!

It's a shame it so pitted. But a really cool big bore! I'd like to find one like that to play with.

Cool.
I am going to learn more about the inner workings of
a Colt New Service than I had ever planned to. There is a problem with the bolt dropping every 7 or 8 cycles. It is a Frankengun. The frame, side plate, and cylinder all are different serial numbers. Me thinks an order to Numrich is coming soon.
Just a step or two away from this...
More of a thousand mile journey from here.

The one I picked up needed a little work too. I was hesitant taking it apart but it isn't too bad. The ejector rod was binding and I thought it was because of a slight bend. I straightened that and sill had the problem just not as bad. Turns out the return spring was binding too. Got that straightened out and then worked over the mainspring. Someone bent it and when trying to fully cock it there was a little resistance. Like a S&W with the strain screw backed too far out. Got that straightened out too. I was going to order new parts but so far made due with what I had.
Only thing left is changing the front sight out, because the old one is mounted crooked and maybe Taylor throating it. There is virtually no forcing cone.
They are neat cold revolvers.
There is very little online for these from what I can see.
I need a detailed schematic of the lockwork parts. No luck so far. Something is hinky about the bolt return spring. I need to find one I can look into to see what mine has wrong.

And in NYC, no less!!

Thanks!
I found a place that has downloadable e-books on all kinds of firearms with lots and lots of dis-assembly pics. Schematics are always helpful too.
