hotels, restaurants [one really good] , and general area around Art Museum. We're having a weekend family reunion centered around visiting the Matisse exhibit. Have tickets, etc. I'm pretty clueless on demographics of city, per se. Been to Conner Prairie muzzle-loading gunsmith courses, so OK up in that end of town. I'll be happy to talk to you on my dime, with map and marker in my hand.
Drop phone number and convenient time to call, to: marshgrrl@gmail.com
Thanks,
John & Martha Anne

38th and Meridian is a decent area. Go a few miles east or west am it goes down hill fast! Straight north on meridian, past 465 is the Carmel area. Pretty high fallutin' area with several hotels and places to eat. There is a new JW Marriott on the near West side, on Washington near the ballpark and the Eiteljorg Musem (worth a trip if you're in the area). 465 makes a loop around te city, I-70 bisects it east to west and I-65 goes from Northwest to South. Much of 65 & 70 inside 465 are closed off right now for construction. Honestly, I don't feel unsafe in any part of te city (the east side doesn't have the best reputation, but I live west). Far as I know, your carry permit is valid here. There are a few good restaurants I'd recommend, depending on how much you want to spend and what kind of good you are looking for. Ruth Crist Steakhouse is amazing, Bucca-di-Beppos is really good Italian family style, both are downtown. The airport is on the west/southwest side of town so there are plenty of hotels out that way, and some decent ones out near me.
Feel free to give me a call some evening. Tonight I have to come back into work for a shutdown, but any other evening would work. Cell number is 317-695-ninety nine, fifty four.
When are you headed this way? I'd be glad to meet you in person and take you for a tour of the gun room!
I can tell you one place that isn't safe!!!!!

The intersection of 25th and Sherman Ave. I was pretty sure I was going to be murdered there!!! On my way to Kansas to turkey hunt one year we stopped in Indianapolis to get gas. Followed the Garmin instructions to the gas station. Open air drug marketin the parking lot. One dealer being a mother with a carload of young children not a one of them in a car seat. Was hard looked by everyone from children to adults since we were the only white people for miles!!!! My buddy went into pay and the pump would not work correctly for me so he tried to get the cashier to come out to see what was wrong with it since they had already charged his card. The cashier refused to leave the bullet proof glassed area he was in. Lesson learned. Don't trust the Garmin for safe directions and thanks god I had my .45 on my side.
As I stood there and looked around I was pretty sure I saw an episode of The First 48 on A&E filmed there!!!
Ummm.yeah..has a similar experience last summer...

driving home from wife's family reunion down in K'tucky. Don't remember the exact locale, and it wasn't quite up to your experience. However, it was a target rich environment. Fortunately, most predators seem to sense when there is a 'bite ya right back' chance in the air.
Am adding your intersection to the 'red marks' on the map, y'betcha.
they do sense it dont they? kinda remarkable

Had an Obama voter (3 actually but the other two-females-were busy threatening my boss) threaten me while I was standing beside my toolbox. He didn't properly read my calm demeanor as he came strutting my way all bowed up so I helped him understand by transitioning a Para 1911 from top drawer to waistband and his color drained from his complexion as quickly as he tapped the brakes and returned to the back seat of his ride. One of the dumbest things you can do is threaten a redneck gear head by telling him "we own ah way with some friends and we gonna straighten yo out". Short time later the local police informed them it's better for their health to refrain from such activities.
Just goes to show you...

Trust your gut, over electronics. I'm guessing you were on I-70, which goes right through Indy. There are tons of suburbs, truck stops, etc both East and West of Indy (and most major cities). I cannot imagine why anyone would willingly stop near the middle of downtown for gas. Another 5-10 miles and you would have been out near the airport and Plainfield. Five-ten miles previously you would have been near greenfield. Either spot would have been highly preferable to anywhere in downtown Indy!

Kind of funny you say that. In every other trip we did exactly that any time we stopped near a city we would hit a gas station outside the city. But that day we didn't and got a little lower on fuel than we wanted to be and stopped were we did. Lessons learned.
Excellent overview........Thanks much
