1911 230 cast TC advice needed...

In my Glock I had to seat these 230 TC bullets to 1.200". A lot of my book data is for 1.275 (which may or may not feed) and 1.2". I'm curious if there is a generally preferred length for 230 TC bullets in the 1911. I'm starting with 1.225" because it feeds easily and 5.7 grains Unique. If you have a preferred powder charge with Unique for your seating depth that would be cool too. I'm mostly looking more for a range/target/plinking load here. Thanks in advance,

I use a factory UMC ball round to set my seating stem (or I say I did,.......many years ago and I have not changed it. So I don't know how long the round is, but it feeds in everything. 6.5 gr of Unique is my load.

Is they will engage the rifling when seated to the length of a ball round...sorta like a forward driving band on a semi-wadcutter. I think my books show them fired in revolvers and that's why they can get away with 1.275". I'm going to look into that tomorrow after the wedding and see if my suspicions are correct. I'm gonna need a lot to look into!

Your article is where I originally came up with the 1.220" depth. I had to go all the way to 1.2" with my Sig and it would only chamber a few before those started to hang up. That was a great gun with jacketed loads but was a pain with cast and the latter is all I really want to shoot in a .45. I probably won't get to shoot these until first weekend in Oct:(

I shoot the TC design 90% of the time in my 45 ACP's. I have settled on 1.185" OAL so the load will function in various 45's of 1911, XDM, PD, etc. Some will take a longer OAL but accross the board 1.185" works for me. That is with the Lee TC conventional lube TC bullet and my old NEI TC design. I use 231 and WST in my loads established many years ago.

These bullets are from Penn Bullets I bought during the buying craze a few months ago because I couldn't get my hands on a Lee mould. I had the TL version but wanted the traditional lube groove. Got it now and as soon as the weather cools a bit more I'm gonna cast a few hundred:)
