Bought a new SxS shotgun.........

by Otony, Wednesday, August 28, 2013, 22:22 (4110 days ago)

.....that has impressed me quite a bit. It is a limited run CZ Bobwhite featuring upgraded wood and a satin nickel receiver rather than one that is color cased. It is a 20ga, with double triggers, 28" barrels, and a straight grip. Comes with five choke tubes, and I am fairly sure Beretta chokes interchange, so I have another half-dozen tubes that should fit.

It is very lively and finished pretty well for a gun in this price range. I picked it up new for $588 shipped, which is actually under wholesale for the standard version. Having handled a great many finer doubles over the years, I would have to say that I could only find a better side by side one of two ways. First would be the proverbial widow selling her husband's Fox or Webley for a pittance. I doubt i could do that to any woman, so that option is out however unlikely it might be.

Second would be to throw down three or four times my purchase price (to start!) to obtain a better gun that would undoubtedly be finished more nicely and handle even livelier than this gun. However those lovely and desirable differences, while notable, might not be justifiable to SWMBO.

To be honest, I do not use a shotgun enough to warrant spending more than this. I might appreciate a finer gun, but I certainly don't need one, nor am I skilled enough to be able to notice an actual difference when in use.....unless of course the fit from one to another is grossly incorrect.

This has always been my dream configuration. I might secretly desire lighter and longer barrels, but otherwise this fits the bill. I'm happy, it looks good, and that is all that matters. Gonna try to wear it out, I've set aside some time this weekend to do just that at the range. Quail and grouse beware!

Sounds like a heckuva good deal to me!

The CZs are great shotguns, and the Bobwhite is a classic configuration for a field gun, especially in 20 Gauge with double triggers.

You done VERY GOOD, indeed! [image]

I'll give ya $100 for it! ;-)

I love a good SxS...

have several including one grade II Ithaca which I can't hit damn thing with. Neither can Matt, my son. I do like that CZ a lot and have been drooling over it for some time. When flying targets need to hit the ground I still grab my ole Ithaca 37...no matter how much I like the SxS's.

Funny that you mention that Bud....

.......there is an Ithaca 37 here doing yeoman duty. I've managed to keep one around for most of the past 30 years. Trust it more than a Mossberg, and I once had an 870 go seriously wrong. I know these are all mechanical items, and even a 37 can fail but I trust it highly.

Whadya, work in a pawn shop or sumpin?

by Otony, Thursday, August 29, 2013, 07:47 (4109 days ago) @ Glen

This was sort of my treat for selling the house. Bought Vinny a huge Lego set, bought Tatiana a nice ring and a medium size girl's Lego set. Bought the wife a Vitamix that cost more than the shotgun! Figured I could indulge a wee bit.

However I did bring three long guns down to the shop to sell by way of compensation. ;-) I don't want to get too crazy.

Just remembered I have a waxed cotton drover coat from Drizabone. Does that count?

Mine has lasted about fourteen years so far, still going (mostly) strong.

We use it every morning, and I also used it extensively for my ill-fated food business.

Great machine. Good company to deal with, too.
