Happy happy happy;)
All that needs is time at the range. I miss my SS GM, it
was so smooth and nice.

Happy happy happy;)
Looks so pristine!! Go shoot some of the newness off of it!!
I see some range time in your future !!
nm
It's gonna get that...
And some time in a deer stand too. I've wanted to pop a whiptail with a 1911 for so long and just haven't had opportunity...yet! Eventually it will get a grip update and a Simply Rugged Cuda:) Gotta recover from this purchase first.
Definitely:)
.
It was a little one, but.....
Good hunting there!

Nice!
I remember that Les Bear. I was amazed at all the little details like how smooth the magazine locks in and such. Good job on the deer:)
Good work Jared. Which bullet?
Gold Dots? I think I recall you favor them...
I'm no expert, but that looks like a pretty new one
If memory serves, that's the so-called New Roll Mark, and while they're all 'good', most seem to agree that Colt QC in the 21st Century has it all over the 1980s. In other words, 'newer is better' when it comes to the Series 80 guns.
In addition, the Series 80 system is generally considered to be the 'best' (most 'reliable') of the firing pin safeties for the 1911. Like many, I prefer the Series 70 system, but in a stainless gun like yours it's arguably worth the 'trade-off'.
Otherwise, I don't suppose you need any pointers, but since you've been shooting SIGs for a while, what the heck.
Mostly, give the gun a chance:
• Get some GOOD hardball-equivalent ammo (or load some)
• Get some GOOD magazines (I prefer and mainly use Wilson 47Cs equipped with Tripp 'Super 7 Upgrade Kits')
If it works with that, you're undoubtedly on your way!

I don't really mind the original Series 80 style firing pin safeties. I despise the Schwartz system. I disabled it on a former Kimber and turned it into a Series 70 as I've seen them cause false hammer strikes where the hammer falls and drives the pin into the block because the grip safety was pushed enough to clear the hammer but not the firing pin safety plunger....that was on an S&W PC 1911. I just buy the Tripp Cobra mags and they do really well. Is there a benefit to the Tripp/Wilson combo?

Unless you count LOW-PROFILE, STEEL baseplates...
--
That is an issue for me...
Didn't think about that but I like the flush steel base plates and Tripp has em in seven round versions:)
Good work Jared. Which bullet?
Yep, 230 Gold Dot at about 950. It made a very impressive hole all the way through, Bigger than some rifle rounds I have used. The Gold Dots are great in the slower rounds. The 270gr GDSP at 2350 out of a .444 hits HARD.
JMO, but those 'fail' for two reasons
Specifically, the matched pair of punched perforations for mounting a screw-on basepad.
In a plain-base magazine, I prefer a plain base.
A 'tasteful' logo impressed thereupon is optional.

I may have forgotten but I think the Tripp 7 round mags...
Have a clean base. The Chip McCormic Shooting Stars had those holes and I didn't care for them but its better than the pase plate pads for me. They just make the gun print. I like the factory Colt mags with the logo on them and they seem to function well.

Yeah, guess I disremembered...
Or as we call our customers so as not to call them liars...I musta been confused:) I don't care for the holes but I do like reliability.
Tripp magazines are good, no doubt
The thing I probably like best about the Wilson 47C is that it's easier to take apart.
Same goes for the 1911 itself: It's still an 'easy' pistol for me to properly maintain.
I can deal with welded magazines if I have to − and I have two (LOL) − but for everyday 'range use' I prefer a detachable base plate, and the Low-Profile Wilson is about as slim as they get.
They might not do so well down South, though. They're blued carbon steel, so corrosion might be a problem in more humid climates.
I've considered hard-chroming some of mine, but the one and only time I sent parts off for plating I forgot all about it...
Musta been the Desert Heat or something.
