Refinishing a Walnut stock
Picked up a Clackamas Kimber model 82 in 22lr last night. Looks like a Pre- Hunter Silhouette with a 21" SS fluted barrel.
Looks to have been stored in a broom closet and shot very litte.
The gloss/polly finish has lots of places they it is chipped/flaked off along with several small dings.
I'd like to strip off the polly finish, steam the dents and then give it a nice oil finish.
Question is, will the polyurithane or whatever laquer they use come off with a mild paint stripper and the the remaining stock take an oil finish?
I've finished several stocks with both Poly and Oil in the past, just never tried to go from one to the other.
Any and all suggestions appericiated.
