Two days, two Colts

I'm actually in a downsizing mode, due in large part to some surgery bills that insurance won't cover (nothing life threatening - just some oral surgery my wife needed to correct a situation with which she was born that couldn't be put off any longer). However, in the last two days, I've added two Colts to the fold (which will result in having to sell even more).

I posted about the New Service .44 earlier. It was listed on a local gun board earlier this week. It is a British .455 that had a .44 Russian/Special barrel and a .44 Special cylinder on it at some point. The stocks are off a US Model 1909, I believe. The Tyler T is an older one. The lanyard loop was removed, but I found a nice repro on ebay this morning for $20 shipped and it is on its way. Hope to shoot it next week!

The Bisley came from a new poster on Lee Martin's board. It belonged to his dad, a WWII vet who carried it daily while running free range cattle in the Salton Sea, CA area for many years. He inherited a large number of guns and other things from his dad and wanted to sell the Bisley, as he had a stronger connection to the other things and said he had to get rid of some of his dad's stuff, as it filled a couple storage buildings. He and I came to terms of mutual satisfaction yesterday, he offered to take a credit card through his business over the phone, and then said he could make Fedex before they closed if he left right then. Sho nuff, this morning, the Bisley was at my transfer dealer's place. Mechanically excellent. Great bore and chambers. It obviously earned every bit of its wear honestly, but it is also obvious his dad took care of his guns. He is looking to see if he finds a holster or any other part of the rig his dad used when he carried the Bisley on the range. I've always liked the feel of the Colt Bisley and the shorter barrel is just dandy. I'll probably have to custom cast oversized bullets for it, but I'll measure the bore and chambers first. I am super tickeled to have this one!

It has been a slow several months for me gun-wise. Been too busy to shoot, too busy to hang out at shops, too busy to do a lot on the forums. The last two days make up for all that. Thanks for letting me share my excitement with people who care. :)

I've got a hollow based.45 mold. I can send you some bullets and if ghey work, you're welcome to borrow it for awhile.

What a pair!

Thanks, Slow Hand. I'll see how it does with my bullets first and get with you on the HBs if I need them. Very kind of you!

Not a problem. It was a special run mold for gallery loads in a .45-70. I shot tons of them in my 1860 Henry and 1872 open tops during my cowboy shooting days. It was also a great bullet for my .455 that had been converted to .45 Colt. I haven't used it much lately, but it's a good one to have around!

I REALLY like that NS!
