Combat Engineer Training

I ROF'd on one job July 3 started another last Monday I had not had a chance to meet every one yet when they had a going away party for one of the young men. Nicely decorated cake for a spec 4 Combat Engineer headed for Afghanistan in two months at the completion of vehicle training. Got a chance to talk to him for a few minutes before shift end. Sounds like not much has changed at Fort Leonard Wood Combat Engineer Training in 43 years. I was most surprised to find out that they were still required to assemble a Bailey Bridge.

They are still in use...

We have used them as a temporary breach crossing here in Tennessee on two sites I'm aware of in the last five years. They are still very effective, and are part of our earthquake response disaster plan. As a matter of fact, combat engineering techniques are a big part of our earthquake response program.
