Hotshot Crew Question...
The media is telling us these firefighters were members of the Prescott Fire Department. I thought these Hotshot crews were seasonal workers for the National Forest Service. What is the straight skinny on this.
Prescott had the only Mun iciple hot shot crew. We are up in
mountains and the fires all seem to come right to town, so they started a seasonal Hotshot crew for in and around town. They still travled to other states as needed. They were fully trained Hot shots. When I last saw Scott, he was in Bucky O'Neill Guns and looked bushed 2 3 weeks ago. He said they had climbed Granite Mountain with backs tools and hose twice that day...

Thanks that helps me understand. When I lived in New Mexico, Hotshot crews were NFS people and many were Navajo. I had to talk my son out of joining at one time. He is a real outdoorsy and ballsy kind of guy. He has a son now and that has given him a more sedate view of life.
The loss of these guys is really bad and I can't guess how bad it is for you folks there is Prescott. The news really rocked me back on my heels this morning and I am a pretty tough ol bird.
