handgun grip material vs. knife grip material
I was at the gun show today looking at knifemaking materials, including a big assortment of scale materials including various stabilized burls and spalted materials. I've noticed before that knife makers tend to use materials with more interesting grain patterns than what handgun grip makers use. I did one time run across seom grips made from canvas micarta. Knifemakers use it a lot, and handgun grip makers frequently use paper micarta, but this is the first time I've seen handgun grips from canvas micarta. In the past few years I've also noticed a few grip makers use things like amboyna burl and buckeye burl. While at the knifemakers supply table we started talking to a guy that bought some of the knife scale material and made handgun grips from it. I'm happy to see it myself.
