Omaha just elected a new mayor....

The previous one was a member of the "Mayors against guns" group created by Bloomberg. During the campaign, he came out for local gun control ordinances since Congress refused to pass what he wanted. It was the usual collection of Demoncratic gun, magazine, and ammunition restrictions or outright bans. He had a partially armored car (leased by the City at a very high price) with an policeman-chauffer to protect him.

He lost by a landslide. The new mayor is using her own car and will drive herself. It looks like she will be providing her own security, too.

I went to the indoor range this morning. The sign in sheet had her name and her husbands name at the top of the list. I had not seen them out front. Evidently, the range owners let them in the back door before the range regularly opened. I saw them as they came out. Both had plastic Ruger gun boxes in their hands. I have no idea if she was just starting or if this was practice or even if it was an upgrade. I guess the only thing I can fault them for is not waiting in line like the rest of us. However, I can overlook that considering who she replaced. I had no idea about this during the election.

Interestingly, one of the mayoral candidates that got weeded out during the primary is in the CAS group I am in. He shoots faster and better than me. He would have been a good one, too, but finished close to last in the primary.

Nice to hear some good electoral news for a change! (nm)

Our local sheriff just retired after many years. He was very pro-gun and even taught some CCW sessions with one of our local trainers and gave church security discussions. Haven't heard much about our new sheriff, we'll see. I would really like to see more of our leadership involved in the shooting sports.

Omaha may never live that down anyway. ntxt

Recall in Colorado, new mayor in Omaha.
Let's hope this trend keeps spreading and possibly nails chitown and NYC.

Too late to recover kalifornia though.

Nebraska is an impressive state

They voted for Romney big time....Ovomit is still pissed at them. Having hunted there for the last 7 years, always good to be around good people. They have incredible system for education and don't mind paying for it. Lot of smart people there I assure you. I thought when I saw NEB go for Romney that CO would follow suit, but it was not to be. We were so disappointed with the voters from CO and still are.

Unfortunately, she was not elected because of her...

gun beliefs. I had no idea how she stood on guns at in any way, shape or form. She was silent on that during the campaign. The last mayor made a big deal about banning or restricting them and I have no doubt that hurt him. He lost by an even bigger margin than was expected. Other than that, though, nothing was said by any of the candidates about guns during the election -- even the CAS shooter.

Evidently, talking about guns can hurt you, but it will not help you. So most everyone kept quiet. The former mayor only went strongly anti-gunowner after polls showed that he was losing. He was trying to shore up his Demoncratic base. It failed.
