Any Sci Fi fans out there?

I'm looking to get back into reading and would appreciate the names of some good authors/books. Ideally Nook e-books if possible.

I've got to start reading again for my sanity. My job situation has been going downhill fast and they are trying to run me off. The patients are in charge of the asylum...

Soitenly. For "old" sci-fi, there are guys like Jules Verne

and Edgar Rice Borroughs. Interesting prose and worldview.

Then there's the "modern" guys like Boge mentioned. Don't bypass Larry Niven's Ringworld. Most excellent. Phillip Jose Farmer's Riverworld is a must also.

For "newer" try pretty much anything by Orson Scott Card (Ender's Game is magnificent) and Vernor Vinge. Particularly like Vinge's take on the upcoming Technological Singularity in Peace War, Marooned in Realtime. "Zones of Thought" are good also.

if you like hard SiFi. I've read everything from the old masters right on up to present...and the Heechee books are still my favorite. However now that I've got my Kendal I've found some excellent hard SF on various free sites. I can list them if yer interested otherwise start off with Randolph Lalonde Spinward series..it will know yer socks off.

past the cutting edge of technology in many ways. Some are engineers and scientists, and they also approach questions of morality and sociology from a modern perspective.

There is quite a bit to learn from fictional stories.
