Seeking DVD/movie recommendations
I recently extended my ongoing Inventory Reduction Program to include the 'obsolete' movies (DVDs) and music (CDs) in my collection, and I have a whole milk crate full of them that I'm going to trade in at a local store.
I'm interested in all kinds of movies, but right now, I'd mostly like to add to my collection of 'Gangster' films, of which I only have these five titles:
• Miller's Crossing
• Casino
• L.A. Confidential
• The Departed
• Public Enemies
I will also be adding these four titles via this trade-in:
• The Godfather I, II, & III
• Goodfellas
I would appreciate any other recommendations along this line.
TIA

Mine.
Must have is "Thief" where James Caan gives a textbook lesson on how to clear a house by yourself with a pistol.
The original "48hours", the last great revolver movie.
I also recommend "Heat". Pacino-good guy/Deniro-bad guy, with a great cast.

+1 for Goodfellas. That and Casino are a few of the movies I can watch over and over. Just watched Henry Hills's biography on the bio channel today. Mob stuff all day today on there.
As much as many will disagree and as weird as it sounds when organized crime was more powerful the world was really a different/better place. They kept the local dirtbags in check and the street violence was much less. This is really true in a local city.
Mine.
Heat is an all time favorite. Another good 'gunny' movie is Way of The Gun. Dan Staley told me about it. It's kinda rough, but the gun handling is great!
Another long time favorite in the gangster era, but not really a gangster movie is a true story of the Newton Boys.
A few
Payback. The the one released in theaters, not the director's cut.
Carlito's Way.
French Connection.
I like "Payback", both versions - also the original...
...version, "Point Blank" starring Lee Marvin.
Many good suggestions here, I second them all. I would also add "Public Enemies" and "Scarface" (both versions).
"Bullet" and "The French Connection"
And of course the first "Dirty Harry".
I forgot about Reservoir Dogs.

Didn't see these mentioned:
Little Ceasar "Is this the end of Rico?"
White Heat "Top of the world, Ma!"
Gun Crazy
Key Largo
The Outfit
D.O.A.
Thanks, guys
Some very good ideas there. Much appreciated.
I also thought of one more: Bonnie & Clyde (1967)

Ya'll know what they say, generally speaking...
'It's only a movie.'

I'd get all three of "The Lord of the Rings" CDs. They are the single best movie adaptation of a book I've ever seen. And they are grand movies to boot.
Oddly enough, I'm not much of a 'sci-fi/fantasy' guy
'Oddly', that is, in regard to the 'sci-fi' part: Being a bona fide Retarded Mad Scientist, I used to do it for a living.
Unfortunately, I don't read sci-fi/fantasy novels, either, so that quality of the 'hook' would be lost on me.
The good news is, I 'sampled' LOTR (not sure which one), and just from a glance, the quality of the production was immediately apparent. I'm sure they're very good movies, I just can't get into the subject very much.
If I did, though, I'd be 'plugging' LOTR too.

Kill the Irishman
Great movie about Danny Greene, Cleveland.

Come up short when they came to collect the "protection" money and you got an immediate and up close lesson in street violence.
Keep away the local riff-raff?? Only until the mobs teenage kids started going out and robbing and vandalizing for fun, then you had to take your losses and keep your mouth shut and not complain to the cops or again you got a lesson in street violence, and became one of the favorite targets for the mob kids.
UPDATE
Made the trade yesterday.
They didn't have many old gangster movies, but I did find these titles the 'Classics' section.
• Bonnie & Clyde (1967)
• The Hustler (1961)
• In Cold Blood (1967)
• Psycho (1960)
AND
• Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942)
Didn't have much credit left, so the only 'new' movie I got was Shindler's List − from 1993.
Thanks again!
