Took the new 375 Ruger out this morning, ran a full box of shells through it. It shot about 3 1/2" low at 50 yards with the express sights. First 3 shot group were all inside 3/4", the groups opened up especially as the sun climbed overhead, became more difficult to see the bead, too much glare in he bright New Mexico sun. Recoil was peppy, but not near as bad as my 300 Win Mag, more snap than the H&H, but I'd rather shoot it than a 338 any day. I can't wait to put a scope on it, I think it has some serious accuracy potential. I will try some 270gr Spire Points next time out.

So, how many shells does a full ox hold? :-D

Until I start casting, I won't be loading more than that at one sitting.

Sounds like you are on the right track. I can't remember off the top of my head is there any way to adjust the sight for elevation?

Must be a small ox.

Remember, it's a full ox. If it was a hungry ox you could fit more in it!

No adjustment for elevation

Just windage, but I will probably call Ruger in the morning and see if they have a lower front sight, had to do the same thing with my #1.

That is what I was thinking, hopefully they can fix you up.

I have only tried 4 loads

I will see if speeding up the velocity brings it up some. It will hopefully be wearing a scope soon.

Have you decided which one? NT

Really leaning towards the Leupold

2.5-8x36, the one on my 300 has served me very well over the last 14 years. I want to stick with American made products when I can.

Good!

I find recoil from the mid-to-big bores to be a whole 'nother animal. I have a coworker who has shot a .300 WM and will not try anything above that even though I tell him it's a different kind of recoil. The .375H&H, while significant, I find to be more like a big shove. Compared to sighting in Son No. 4's .308 which beats me up.

Which bullet were you using in your "full ox"? ;-)

The Hornady 300gr SPRN

They are the least expensive option other than cast. This rifle has a much sharper recoil impulse than an H&H, but still not near as bad as the 300.

Great scope, I could use two or three more of them.

That's about what I would expect.

Smaller case plus higher pressure equals sharper recoil. Dad has one in a No. 1 but I haven't shot it yet. I am interested to see if the .375 Ruger also shows the ability to shoot different weight bullets to nearly the same POA like the H&H.

I will let you know

It will be next week, my oldest daughter is graduating HS this Saturday, so it will be crazy around here.
