Can somebody refresh my memory on this? Are Federal primers harder or softer than Winchesters and/or Remingtons?

I bought a carton of Federal large pistol primers a year or so ago to use in .45 ACP-.45 Auto Rim. I can recall that there was a reason I bought Federals instead of the usual Winchesters, but I can't remember what the reason was. Had to do with either the hardness or sensitivity, but that's as far as I can get.

A feller on our pistol league couldn't remember if the instructions for his new reloader said always use Federals or never use Federals. He told me he was finding little bits of red plastic for months...
