How can I get a Bisley hammer for my Flat Top?
OK, I just got my FLat Top .45 in on Friday, but I"m already really liking it! One thing I'd love to do to it is put a Bisley hammer spur on it. I know hat Ruger made a few Bisley Flat Tops, but I"m guessing the possibility of scoring one of those is slim to none. So, is anyone selling hammers that will fit a flat top with a bisley spur on them? I"m guessing it's not the same as a full sized NMBH? I've got a buddy who can TIG pretty well, so I guess I could buy another Bisley hammer (I fit one to my .45 NMBH) and cut the spru off and have him weld it on the Flat Top's hammer.
Thanks for any info,
Doug K

I just ordered a Super BH hammer as the height is practically the same. I do need to get off my duff and install it... The Bisley will require some metal removed from the hammer.

I put a Bisley hammer on my NMBH but didn't know if the full size hammer would fit the smaller flat top frame. Looks like I'll be ordering a hammer from Brownells!
I did some research and here's some of my "notes"...

Your post motivated me and I got out my NV in .45 Colt
for a trial installation. Let's just say I am editing my notes. However, I'm proud to say that I've got no blue residue to scrape off the walls. I am not so proud to say that I've not got it back together right, YET!

Soooo, I got it done despite the ham-handed demise of the
cylinder catch plunger and needing to properly align the bolt/cylinder catch with the hole so it didn't bind (I kinda thought it might do it on its own). A learning experience for certain, I've ordered the detent spring clamp from Brownells. NOT certain that I want to put another in but this because the radius which you can cut to match the grip frame with a Bisley hammer doesn't match using the SBH hammer. I wonder if a Montado hammer would match, it should. Would I truly be upset with a stainless hammer on a blue gun? I've cycled it slow and fast many times now and it works. The slightly lower hammer IS noticeably easier to reach (as Robb, IIRC, can attest).

Keep meaning to take down my NMBH and pull its Bisley hammer out and see if it fits in the flat top. Last couple of night have been early to bed and the youngest was up most of the night so it's not lookin like I'm going to have much spare time soon! I'm hoping it will fit and if so I'll be getting a Bisley hammer from brownells ASAP!

It will fit except for that radius at the ears... The middle hammer with the black marker is illustrative. I was not wanting a bright surface there so didn't want to do the cutting/grinding/filing...
It doesn't look bad from the side AND it works.
However, with the Super Blackhawk hammer on the FT frame you do get a bit of a difference as shown here...
BTW, thanks to Hoot for the hammer. He thought it might be problematic but it worked a treat.

Lookin' good Hobie!
Glad it worked for you.
Thanks again. It is always good to learn something. I had
lost my third hand but have found it again.
