Anyone remember ALF, Tinker and Doc from the old days?
The three of them just crossed my mind, what ever became of those fellows?
Last I heard Tinker and ALF were hanging out at the Savage 24 forum, but that was many moons ago.
I heard that Doc broke up with his wife and moved to another state. Used to get the occasional email from him, but that dried up.
Boy, I think back to those days fondly at times. Remember when I was trying to find some of us badges engraved Pistol Packing Preachers. Ended up being a little too spendy for some (me included) so that project sort of dried up on the vine, as it were.
Then there was the limited run of Rugers made up for the group by Reeder, followed by the consolation Rugers by Clements. I foolishly sold mine a few years back to another forum member. I can sure be dumb at times.....
Otony
Yep...
I hear from Doc occasionally. Wrote to Tinker at an old address a year or so back and he answered. Haven't heard from Alf since, oh, '06 or so...
Yep...
Now that I think on it, there was Doc O'Meara and Doc Hudson. I was referring to Hudson, but O'Meara is missed as well.
I sold that Clements Bisley to Scott Kolar for a pittance, sigh.
ALF/Lance was in touch with me sometime between 2006 and 2009, but nothing since then.
For that matter, I notice that Caz has almost completely dropped out of sight here.
Otony
Yep...
Haven't heard from O'Meara in a while either. Caz is in contact via FB and occasionally via email.
Caz is around over on the FB. NM
.
caz is busy!
collecting bacon recipes~

Me, too...
Now that I am a pistol packin' preacher, such a badge would interest me.
Have seen Doc Hudson on a forum in the last bit, but I can't remember which one. Haven't seen the other two in years.
Caz is around over on the FB. NM
Yes, I see his bacon posts there, but even those have diminished the past couple of months.
Otony
Maybe he got a life:-)

Anyone remember ALF, Tinker and Doc from the old days?
I was wondering the same thing. Doc is the only one I knew, met him at a meet in Evansville, IN many Moons ago. He was in the area because his Wife was getting her Doctorate at IU in Bloomington. Jim Taylor set up the meet and greet. I corresponded with Doc a bit after that, then lost track of him. His Wife needed her Doctorate to manage a Jr. College, IIRC in was in MS. Any body heard from him?
"Last I heard Tinker and ALF were hanging out at the Savage
That was 2007ish. Haven't heard from them since.
The forum had taken an "off topic" turn where 98% of what was discussed was anything but Savage model 24's. It had driven off most/all the people who were there for the original purpose of the forum, including causing Messieurs Church and Dunn, to lose interest in their own forum.
They gave it to me, and in order to save the forum I decided to be the bad guy and re-steer the forum back on topic. No more off topic stuff. That didn't go over well with Doc H. , nor Lance I don't believe and they faded away. (well Lance faded, Doc made a declaration of exit and did so).
CSA I & II
The first and second were held in Athens, Tx. Alf was there, and Doc Hudson did the cooking. Lewis Ballard "The Kilted Cossack" remained a friend for years, then moved from Houston to Amarillo, and vaporized. Chris Keck, who signed on as "the boys from the Broken Nose ranch", introduced me to the original Sixgunner board, and invited me to the first CSA. He's still in Nocona, and I hear from him on occasion. An old coot from Arkysaw named Tom sump'nuther showed up and skinned me out of some nice sixguns. The empty onion sacks should have been my first warning...

Anyone remember ALF, Tinker and Doc from the old days?
I had dinner with Doc Hudson and his wife about four or five years ago when they were on a trip to the Smokies. I met them for dinner in Pigeon Forge. Haven't heard from him since. I believe he's back in Alabama.
Anyone remember ALF, Tinker and Doc from the old days?
Yeah, Tinker's last association with this series of boards was the day before Bush was elected the first time. Remember it well. Still have a couple of the Sixgunner shirts from the group buy he managed. Moved to the Savage board and vanished.
Alf, in all his iterations, eventually moved to the Savage board and vanished.
Doc Hudson was slowly fading to the Savage and Leverguns board and then vanished from here. Last I heard, he and Marcie had divorced and he moved back to Brantley, AL to be near his mother - his dad died around 10yrs ago and she was alone. Haven't heard from him in years.
Speaking of missing persons, what about Dan Staley? Posted as OleDan. Seemed to focus on 1911s and moved to that board, I think.
CSA I & II
Jack,
CSA I was held at a little range just outside of Greenville, MS. Met a lot of good folks for the first time there.
The first two people to walk up to me and Kathy at the motel and introduce themselves was Jim Taylor and Charlie Smith. My how time flies.
Doc Hudson (Larry) is in AL caring for Mom and has a new
love interest. I just heard from him and I believe he is doing well.
Lewis Ballard is on FB (but I just left) as are several others.

Sincerely,
Hobie
I remember Dan
He was a good guy and met him and his wife in person on one of the Athens CSA's. I have wondered about him often.
You left FB?!?!?
I guess I should pay better attention. I don't do much on there, just not a lot of spare time to divide up unfortunately.
Did not know that......
.......Lewis "Kid Cossack" Ballard had moved to Amarillo. We had a spectacular falling out a few years back, unfortunately. Haven't spoken since. Good luck to him, he seemed mired in a swamp of indecision for many years. I wish him the best, whatever he is doing.
You all might recall when he and I were closer that I was using the handle "Kid Cassock". We had a few things in common, not the least of which both our wives are Russian, his from Kazakhstan, mine from Saint Petersburg. I am also godfather to his two oldest girls, and Lewis himself, but church didn't seem to enter into his sphere much in the long run.
I dimly recall a gal from the early days, a cowgirl from the Dakotas? She was pretty active, early on. And of course our friend from Buffalo Bore, and John Taffin and Jim Taylor. AK Church and I still emule upon occasion. So many others, I truly enjoyed those times!
What was the timeline of forums we were all involved with? Just before Sixgunner, John had one that sort of morphed from some earlier version. Then Sixgunner died, to be replaced by Joel's version? I am sure I have the timeline and names wrong......
Otony
Yep - and none of us knew each other by sight. Kinda funny,
being amongst people you know and not recognizing anyone...
Lynette and I ended up on the firing line between Jack, Joe, and Craig Mattingly and Jimmy P. It was Sept 2000, as I recall and BLISTERING hot. Around 105deg, 100% humimdity and the shooting line had a low tin roof.
I remember Dan
Yep, Dan & Renita are good people. Buffy and I were good friends too.
They lived near my wife's family in N. IN. and we would visit whenever Lynette and I went north.
Buffy the pit bull:) nm
.
Don't know about timeline, but the various iterations...
are roughly:
earp.com
sixguns.com/Campfire
Sixgunner.com/forum
"New and Improved" sixgunner.com/forum
Gordboard forum/sixshootercommunity.com
leverguns.com/leverguns.sixgunner.com
levergunscommunity.com
sixshootercommunity.com/forum
If I were more ambitious I could take a look at the date of registration of sixshootercommunity.com and levergunscommunity.com to put tentative dates for the beginning of those. Plus, I'm probably missing quite a bit. For example, the Savage 24 forum, rugerowners, singleactions and ???
A bit of clarification on the "Gord Board" and "sixshootercommunity". Gordon in NM set up the "punkin board" when it seemed like the new owner of Sixgunner.com was going to make what were considered "drastic changes" and invited a few of us to congregate there. When the original sixgunner forum was changed to black on black to force folks to the new forum Gord threw the doors open and the rest is history. I set up sixshootercommunity.com (although at first I registered sixgunnercommunity, but to avoid conflict changed to the current one)as a "doorway" to the forum, something easier to remember than "disc.sewer.com/forum/#######" or whatever the string looked like. When the leverguns forum bit a virus or whatever happened then it was easy to setup the levergunscommunity and dedicate it to being a forum loosely linked to leverguns.com. We also have pumprifle.org which was set up by Bruce Hamlin a couple years back.
And over the years folks have come and gone and some have gone and drifted back and others have faded into history. But there's still a few of us "good ol' boys" who have been hangin' together for almost a decade and a half in the virtual world.
I remember the cowgirl; I think she used a couple of handles
There was another that was around a short while and seemed local (or friends with) Buck Elliot. Can't remember her name or handle.
Then Mellie, Church's girl.
Remember Richard Easley and his terrible jokes? Died unexpectedly on the operating table during a heart cath in '03.
Board iterations - lessee, this one, preceded by Gordon's disc.server board, preceeded by Joel's (paralleled by Jim's old board for a while), preceeded by Jim Taylor disc.server boards, preceeded by the Wyatt Earp board. JT's disc.server board paralleled Jim's early board. Sure has changed over time. Doc Hudson had a website in the early days - it was one long page of Q&A. My earliest memories of the sequence date to somewhere around '97, but I may be off a year either way. Paco & Jim started Leverguns in parallel some years back.
We had a discussion once about the old days, and IIRC rob said he remembered posting the first post on Wyatt's board.
Did not know that......
Yea!!! Whatever happened to Joel ? and AK Church, anybody in touch with either. Did Joel have a scam going or just fall on hard times, is his Dad still in business?
She's on FB too...
Cheyenne aka "Nebraska Cowgirl". She runs a page on FB called "Little Blue Gunshop" or something like that.
Did not know that......
Joel had big plans for commercializing the website. But apparently life and ??? got in the way and the last I checked the domain is simply parked. I've done my best to keep some of the stuff going, but not for commercial reasons. The community here funds the sites and their hosting by a yearly drive. Perhaps someday we'll manage to pick up sixgunner.com too. It'd be interesting to get some of the old articles back up on the 'net where folks could access them easier.
Forgot to mention in an earlier post, milesfortis.com. It's now a part of the "community" sites/forum. Last year we had some hackers hit us on a couple of the sites and I've not had time to get everything back up.
I remember the cowgirl; I think she used a couple of handles
Boy your memory is better than mine by a longshot (handgun) but the names you mention sure bring back a lot of memories. Yep, Jim Taylor was instrumental in setting up a lot of stuff. Set up my first website, L.E. Jurras& Assoc several years back. Was fun for awhile, then I found it took all my time, not allowing any for work. After a couple years of e-mailing and conversing with Buck Elliot finally met him in Cody, WY at a Linebaugh seminar. Buck was the Gentleman I had come to believe he was from the internet. Met up at the Irma Hotel in Cody. A true Gentleman
Who was the Cowgirl mentioned above, read her posts but never conversed.
Remember the fellow that was always poking you?
I can't call his name right now... but he believed the 44mag Super Redhawk was the end-all of handgun development. Loaded heavy bullets seated long to high pressure. Last I remember, he got out of guns and into racing.
Yep, she would climb in your lap if you sat down.
She was a great dog.
Remember the fellow that was always poking you?
John K. If you were talking to me, No I don't remember who it might have been. LEJ
That's her. Remembered she used two names, but couldn't
remember either.
Yes, sir, I remember it very well.
He always seemed to be trying to pick a fight, but perhaps that was just the way he came across to me. His other hobby was building racing engines and it slowly morphed into his primary hobby. Then one day he never came back.
Cannon would remember all of this and likely have pictures and dates.
Yes, sir, I remember it very well.
Possible, but can't recall, but the racing engines ring a bell.
That's about the time I received my Grand Curmudgeon certificate. Which hangs with pride above my work bench.
I really miss OleDan, he was a great guy. Fountain of
Knowledge. So many good folks over the years. I have to say this group in all it;s iterations has had a very positive effect on me, personally.
THANK YOU ALL!
Rob

There is no life after bacon! I check forums every day...
...but yup, been busy with 2 jobs, grands, and....dawgs!
I remember Dan
John, they had to have a iffy put down awhile back. They now have two (at least!) rescue pits now. Dan and Renita are doing well. I email back and forth with him on a regular basis along with a few other former regulars.
have been here since the first one. often just look
and occasionally make lame comments, and sometimes have something interesting. sure do miss AK and many of the others.
have been here since the first one. often just look
I have told AK of this forum, but he doesn't seem too interested.....
Otony
Dan is doing well & the magic woid is "nice!!!-stuff!!"
Some fancy 1911 & AR builder is spokem of. Y'know -- the one's with gnat's eye accuracy. ;~`) There are still Staffordshire Terriers on laps and couches. And perhaps, a new or old fangled shootin' iron close to hand.
And to second Mr Leahy, this group of people here is sorta a condensed good example of...well....good. Best posse I've hung around witn, in a very long time.
Me, too...
I think he's been on the Leverguns Forum.
Now we just need someone to post a picture of..
…Monty with a blown up gun and a busted nose.
(although maybe I shouldn't have said that out loud, you know how things work.)
Trying to smoke me out? :)
For some reason, that doesn't ring any bells.
I do remember Tennessee Tom threatening you and just about everybody else on the board.
Weren't there two Montes from Alaska?
Seems like there was a second Monte, a genuinely nice guy, that was always being mistaken for Monte Burgher.
Earp.com-Singleaction45 I remember...
Feels like decades ago! I even remember AJ Ferris and others that were there way back when.
Buck was a wealth of interesting info...
Around from the early days of Freedom Arms and worked on a project to build a 454 lever gun with Freedom Arms. Very interesting stuff. IIRC he was working on building his own line of lever guns last I heard from him. I wonder if that went anywhere. There is a company now that builds very nice high end, high power lever guns now but I can't remember the company name.
Let him know...
We miss him over here:)
Miles was around back then too...
IIRC they had a page up on Earp.com.
His name is on the tip of my tongue...
I used to argue with I'm about 45 Colt vs. 44 Mag. Now I could care less but it was fun to argue with him. There is a road around here with the same name and every time they mention it in a traffic report he pops into mind:) I'll come up with his name shortly but I swear it had a C in the last name.
Seems his first name was Craig or Greg...maybe...but
I swear his last name started with a C. This is really irritating me because its RIGHT THERE!!!
Craig Luna!!!
Nm
He's still on Leverguns. (nm)
(nm) meant no message. I guess I lied.
wish he did. a gentelman , a fine wit, and just plain fun
he is truly missed.
Yeah… I haven't been able to use this in years!
YEP! That has been bugging me all day. Finally remembered,
came here & posted... should've just let you cipher it out for me.
I used to call him Luna-tic:) nm
.
Ha! It worked.
That guy had a lot of folks wound up. Wasn't it Sundles that was going to catch a plane and whip him? First (only?) person to meet him face-to-face was Jeff Q. I remember nothing after that.
I hate to hear that, but she had to be getting old. Buffy
meant a lot to them.
I may still have his phone # - will try to call him.
.
John K or John K?
It's been 15 years or so and I STILL don't know which one is which?
And seeing as how you're here, that would mean the other one isn't.
I got to visit with them once in Ft Wayne.
Buffy was a great dog indeed. Rub her neck, friend for life.
It's just too hard for me to keep up...
Too many forums, too many Facebook groups, too little time. If it wasn't for an iPad and an iPhone I don't think I'd even be here. Modern technology lets me keep up as I go, when I get a break. That way I don't have to sit down at night on a laptop or pc for hours:) I have been away from here for way too long though!
John K or John K?
Yeah. I'm the other one, from Lower Alabama. Not the "Handloads" one - he would post something like "John K., Handloads.com".
Think his real name was John Knudson?
Yes.
And I remember your "K" as well, but I thought you were Handloads.com. See! I'm still wrong!
Saw AK Church in person last fall
Doing pretty well, doesn't spend a lot of time on the interwebs. Fascinating fellow to converse with.
And yes...
..we've had this conversation a few times over the years.
lol
LOL! Right...
.
That page morphed into...
milesfortis.com then milesfortis.us now we've got milesfortis.com again. A lot of neat info on it, AK Church's articles and Lone Gunman's as well are there too.
I swear I thought I have seen AKRAY post here???
I'll go ask.

Yep, and on FB as well nt
z
Some how, some body posted T&A to my wall and my
wife went ballistic (appropriate term if not an appropriate reaction). I have cousins, nieces, nephews, sister, grandchildren, etc that see my stuff and THAT sort of stuff on there is simply unacceptable no matter what may or may not offend me. So, I quit it.

I completely understand...
I set my settings so if someone tags me or tries to post to my wall I have to approve it before it can post. I have to be very careful as well with kids from church and such friending me.
Careful in the sense of...
What I allow to post. I want my stuff to be kid safe and set a good example.
He's talking about AK Church...
Not Ray Huff.

Long thread!
Don't remember seeing one this long since Brian Pettet conducted a "social experiment" while Jim T. was at the Holiday.
Where is he, BTW? Last I knew he worked for Rob L. in AK?
I remember that!
That went over like...well it just didn't go over so well:)
Long thread!
Don't think Brian lives in Alaska anymore. Maybe back home in the Midwest somewhere.....?
Otony
Yep, sure do.
AKC and I correspond occasionally. Saw him last fall with mcassill. I believe he hunts with Jhenry/Hiram in the fall. He is still AK Church in every way.
ALF/Lance and I traded load data for .32-20 for his B-53 and he fufilled a dream and bought a Sako in .375H&H so there was more load exchange. That was a couple years back and I haven't heard much since.
Reading through the lists of names sure brought back a lot of memories. This is nearly the only forum I frequent anymore. Occasional forays into others seeking information on one thing or another but always here.
And, like Rob, I have also learned an awful lot about being a better man and am eternally grateful.
Bryan P is in NM building churches.
Bryan did some assembly for me, and is a good friend. really, I worked for him...to support his FFL

Of the Troops & For the Troops
Now that I think about it, it's been more like
eight or nine years. Somebody else from the old board came through these parts and I met them for dinner in Sevierville one time, but I can't remember who it was.
That Doc Hudson was sure a character, he showed up for dinner in his kilt, you'd a thought he was here for the highland games. Nice enough fella though, and so's his wife; ex-wife I guess now, from what ya'll say.
I had tried all those controls. As Murphy lives in my house
he managed to circumvent everything!
