Turnbull Flat Top 357

by woody, Sunday, March 24, 2013, 11:48 (4207 days ago)

I had Turnbull's CC the frame on my OM 357. Someone drilled a nice hole it the top strap. Rest of the gun is factory bluing. Grip frame is ceracoated by Tarjac. They camo dip guns and ceracoat stuff. They are local to me also. Grips are by Dick Thompson. Now I'm looking for the next gun to drop off over at Turnbull's!!!

Beautiful gun all the way around. My meager gun collection lacks a nice 357 single action. I really want an OM 357 or a modern Flattop but I really wish they would make the standard NM Blackhawk 357's on the small frame. The older I get the more I really and truly appreciate the 357 Magnum.

Most shooters of this world seem to be giddy about "big bore" sixguns, but I still prefer the 38/357 rounds for all purpose use. I am kinda "Skelton like", in this regard. I sure like your gussied up flat top.

About 20 years ago I picked up an OM Blackhawk at a Texas pawnshop that I bought for $100.00. Somebody had drilled a couple of holes in top topstrap and the barrel and charge holes were trashed with pits.

I plugged the holes in my shop and sent it to Ruger for a new barel, cylinder and blue job. When it came home, I reinstalled the old lockwork. A few years later I fitted a stainless steel grip frame from an Old Army and traded Doc Omeara out of some horn grips. All put together it is one fine sixgun. Here tis;

That's the version I like best...

If they would just make that gun again in NM form I'd buy one immediately. I've travelled the big bore route from 357 to .44 Mag to .45 Colt to Redhawk 45 Colt with heavier loads to 454 to 475 Linebaugh back to 45 Colt then back to 44Mag and 357. Today the 357 and .45 ACP please me the most with a lot of 38 Special thrown in for warm fuzzies:)

Speaking of .357s

I'm just glad this one isn't stainless... :eyepopping:

riding crossdraw with me on the tractor at the farm is a 4&5/8" OM 357 loaded with 173gr Keiths. Bought it at a gunshow with a fresh reblue. Unfortunately, someone was over zealous with the buffing wheel... but it SHOOTS. Polished the gripframe and installed a set of Lett's buffalo horn grips. After farm utility use, it's starting to look like someone rubbed it down with 180gr sandpaper, but it still SHOOTS.

It would be one of the last to leave my hands...

Well, that didn't take long

Did someone here get it?

Inquiring minds and all... :-D
