S&W 1911 PC experiences? (again)

Does anyone own or have any experience with an S&W 1911 Performance Center gun in 45 ACP? My LGS has had one on the self for awhile. It is still calling my name. I am looking to upgrade my current 1911 for range duty (not for self defense). My friend has a very similar S&W 1911 PC and it seems like a nice gun fitting almost all of my needs. One example is hardly what I want to go on for $1600.
Opinions?
Thanks,
mark

I don't think I would have any reservations about buying a S&W PC product, except for the price that you indicate. At that price I might look for a Les Baer or a Wilson Combat. This would be personal preference though, I can't say that any one would be better quality than another.

For less money I think the Kimbers are a very good value and they have a lot to choose from.

I remember when the S&W scandium 1911's first came out- I wanted one. Tim Sundles said he had one and it was the best 1911 he had ever seen. I think that is a pretty good endorsement and that is for the standard production model.

Thanks for the opinion. The Les Bear's that the store has in stock are closer to $2000. They have no new Wilson Combat 1911's. Maybe I need to make another trip to the store.

You need to shop around! My S&W Gunsite went begging @1100

I picked it up in trade for less.
Maybe this sounds cold blooded, but there are a LOT of "Old Guys" divesting themselves of great old 1911s right now. I traded 1100 bucks for a custom Gold Cup, and picked up a Bellevue Detonics Service Master II for 500.00 these guns are out their, you just need to look in a verity of places. Our own "JLF", Jack Fowler,Honest Arch Arch Stanton etc, is a a link to a treasure trove of quality guns. Do a smart search on gunbroker for "texjack." Send him an e-mail and let him know what you are looking for.
I have a half dozen or more of my favorite guns from Jack.
Good Luck to you.

Personally, I would take my sons Smith over my old Gold Cup.

Les Baer are somewhat rare used but I would expect there to be a few Wilson's running around.
