Why I love reading Skeeter!

Who's Who in Gun Land?

Q I ordered a copy of No Second Place Winner from Bill Jordan and asked if he had recovered from Jug Johnson's visit.

On the frontispiece of the book he wrote, "I am sure you are aware that both Jug Johnson and Skeeter Skelton are fictitious characters. Dobe Grant writes all of those Stories".

Well?

A Well, it looks like you've been taken in, like so many others.

"Bill Jordan" is the pen name of Belle Jordan, a wizened little old lady in Shreveport, La. That long, tall, homely yahoo you see around the gun conventions is a guy she hired away from a carnival sideshow to make personal appearances for her.

Yep, a classic retort from Skeeter.

From the Dark Canyon website, they have a nice little collection of Skeeter's writings.

Indeed!

Bill and Skeeter had a grand old time playing off that "relationship".

Some of the funniest stuff ever written.

They were, of course, very close friends.

Classic!

(Good Friends, Good Guns, Good Whiskey p. 138)

It's not a crossdraw, but I'm pretty sure Skeeter would have approved.

Fred D'Albini, probably not so much. :-D

Got a brown one just like that, FOG, but my C/M is not in nearly as nice shape as yours. Class rig.

I've always wanted one...

First, I lucked into the CM (which is just fabulous; Thanks again, Glen!), then I found the grips (which are among the best I've ever seen), and the next thing I knew, there was that shiny "piece of chicken hide" (LOL)

Good for the soul! :-)

The trusty old VISA card, not so much... :-P

For a few weeks after I read that article, I called everyone Pete and chuckled about it! It didn't do anything for my already questionable popularity... I gave up on it when it took too long, too many times explaining it!

Why I love reading Skeeter! PART 2

DON'T FORGET THIS; Skeeter and Bill Jordan had a HUGE falling out sometime before Skeeters death.

In a related story...

As it turns out, butterflies aren't free after all...

Seriously.

First I've heard if it. What point does this statement make?

Why I love reading Skeeter! PART 2 WHAT???

John , could you add a little more info, about this falling out thing???

In addition to Skeeter's good humor...

by FOG, Saturday, March 02, 2013, 22:49 (4229 days ago) @ Dave B

His writing frequently expressed his warmth as a person.

Skeeter could certainly be serious, but regardless of the strain imposed by circumstance, he never showed the slightest hint of having a chip on his shoulder about anything.

Whether that was really true, I can't say, but it is something to emulate.

Or at least admire. :-)
