1911 in 455 Webley

A MSgt where I am working has a 1911 in 455 Webley, but the barrel is trashed. He is wondering if there is a source for a replacement, he will hold on to the original, but would like it in shooting order.

Will a 45ACP barreland mags fit?

Probably a good idea...

My own 'research' didn't turn up much regarding .455 barrels for the 1911, except a few very high prices.

From what I have read, he can get a 45 ACP barrel fitted, but it would ruin the collectibility of the piece, magazine alone is around $200. Me, I'd sell it and hope I could get enough to buy a more recent 1911.

I'd also advise selling it...

Unless there is some personal attachment.

Then, I'd probably advise leaving it as-is and buying something else to shoot.

I only 'found' two .455 barrels for the 1911: One recently sold on eBay for around $400 (IIRC...), and another ostensibly for sale elsewhere at around $800 (again, 'memory-dependent' − lol).

I didn't bother recording the link because, (a) I was pretty sure you weren't looking for an $800 barrel, and (b) it was on something like page eight of my Google search results and thus a little hard to believe.

In any case, for obvious reasons, I would not advise the caliber change.

I just didn't know those reasons were that 'obvious'. ;-)

According to an article in a recent magazine (don't recall which one), the standard .45 ACP barrel will not fit in the frame with some modification.

He might ought to sell that thing to a collector as the one Keith Mallory carried on the clandestine mission to blow up the German guns. If you know the one I'm talking about, you are a REAL "gun nut"!
