yup, it's a .358 diameter slug, depending upon the case I'm using 12.5-14gr of 2400 and while my notes show some pretty decent groups, I have apparently never run these loads thru the chrony!

I find that bullets do not have to be concrete-hard to avoid leading. In fact, to a point, softer bullets do better. To maximize velocity without accuracy-destroying blow-by, you have to have the correct combination of alloy, lube, bullet dimensions, and choice of powder.
That said, it's hard to generalize. As Taffin said, "Every gun is a law unto itself."
