Saw this in this mornings paper, though some of you might find it interesting:

I think the lanyard is pretty neat, didn't realize militaries used these that much anymore.
I am certainly looking forward...
to surplus Hi-Powers being available on the market.
don't bet on it...
it's the British government... they'll distroy all the Hi-Powers as they get turned in for the replacement Glocks....
AMEN, brother . . .
Please put me down for several!
And throw a big party and dance around gleefully while
Destroying them. These are the same people who collected and destroyed all the guns America sent them during WWII after the war was over.
I am certainly looking forward...
The British government hates guns of all kinds. They would no sell them, even to us Colonials. They will be ground up and sold as scrap to China. Pity wat!!
will they ever have to actually use them?
I can't imagine British troops every having to shoot at anyone except maybe British citizens.
They did pretty dang good shooting Iraqi and Talibon and
Argy's in the South Atlantic...Brits troops with Hi Powers and FALs fought a Argentine Destroyer to a standstill in Price George island

Early "smart gun" technology
The lanyard is early "smart gun" technology, by which a Brit soldier can say "Give me that!" and retrieve his weapon with a smart yank on the lanyard.
It's a lot less complicated than the biometric schemes that have been advanced.

I used to have EVERYTHING tied down (except hand
grenades). I hate paying for lost stuff. I have even been known to put lanyard rings on my own handguns.

"There must be 50 ways to lose your shooter"
Buddy of mine who grew up in West Tennessee found a rusted Cooper DA revolver in his daddy's hog lot. Not US or Confederate issue, but some Yankee officers purchased them privately.
We figured some northern gentleman must of lost it when some of Bedford Forrest's boys shot him off his horse......
