There's a cutover cornfield just across the branch from the house, and some doves have been coming into it. Last segment of dove season opened today, and several of the neighbors came over to shoot. I decided to get fancy and got out my uncle's 28 gauge Remington 11-48. I haven't shot that little gun in 6 or 7 years, but I didn't really expect a lot of birds anyway, so I took it.

First flight that came in, I swung on a bird and dumped it, dead in the air. Oh Boy - I'm gonna be hot stuff today!

You guessed it - birds came in all afternoon and all I shot from then on was holes in the air.

Been there done that, Dove's can be a real challenge, but I refuse to use anything bigger than 20 ga. prefer 28 or 410. The drought has keep things slow here this year and last. Cheers:-D

16ga Mossy. In wing-shooter theory, it's unusable for flying game shooting. Give one to a determined twelve year old, tho, and they will will make it work. Work well enough, in fact, to shoot skeet doubles with it, eventually. Shot as well with that, as any of the more expensive, sophisticated SxS's owned later in life. Bequeathed it to an adult friend, for his family. Presently have one battered Mossy with a turkey bbl and 28: tube. it works. And if it gets a bit more worn, that's another good memory.
