Good on him just the same. I know if the local schools asked there would be a line of volunteers to watch over the schools...

A Marine is never "unarmed".

My wife had a good question: "How come things like this rarely happen in the South?"

I saw that. I HOPE he has a 1911 tucked away.

University of Texas, in 1966 if'n I recollect right. It happens everywhere, good point, Charles. I think there was a shooting at Texas A & M this past summer also, could be wrong about that though.

Charles Whitman...

Yep...I remember Charles Whitman well. A few months after the shooting I took the Texas Bar Exam which was given in a big lecture hall at Univ. of Texas. Outside the window I could see the tower from which Whitman did his shooting. It made me a little nervous looking over my shoulder at the tower while taking the exam, but I passed.

Yea, Charlie, '66 was a bad year...

For me and mine, and lot'sa people. My Ma got sick that year, and couldn't take care of us, so I was sent off to live with my Grandma for a year or two. My brother got wounded in Vietnam, my little sister was in the hospital for a couple of months, they thought she had leukemia, but she got well, never did figure out what was wrong with her. Then you had Whitman, also that was the year Richard Speck killed them nurses. Everytime I see a photo of that damn "tower" I'm reminded of a lot of bad stuff.
