They can't remain silent forever.
They have given a brief period of respectful silence, and now have to go on record with a position. I guess we'll see what's up at the press conference on Friday.
Perhaps I should say "we" instead of "they".

Concessions to what?
NRA doesn't get a vote in the House or Senate. 
They will make a statement on 12-21-2012
Perhaps they are waiting to see if the Mayan Calendar solves the issue once and for all.
Joking aside, which was in extremely poor taste considering the victims, it seems that the NRA has shown a gradual pattern of easing back from certain issues. I'm afraid they are more than susceptible to the Politically Correct virus.......
