Lance Thomas the gun fighting watch maker
Except for catching a couple of rounds himself, this guy did everything right. I think he'd make an interesting Ayoob Files article. He's a Jim Cirillo type gunfighter for sure.
When the first indication that you are being robbed is a
bullet through the neck, AND you survive, that's pretty dang good. Ayoob already did an Ayoob files on Lance Thomas, it's in the Ayoob Files book as well. Kirchner in his book Deadliest Men, did an excellent interview of Thomas.
I remember Paul Harvey singing Lance Thomas' praises after the 3rd gun fight.

I didn't know there was an Ayoob files book, OR, I'd forgotten (which is just as likely <sigh>). Thanks for the heads up.

I don't remember reading about him in the Ayoob Files. Do you remember about when it ran in American Handgunner?

dang, I should have bought a copy when it came out. I have every issue of American Handgunner starting from just before "The Ayoob Files" started in the magazine. I'll have to look back through them.
Sorry I don't proly Late 90s. As that was about when Lance
went low profile.

Found it with a google search. It ran in the March-April, 2002 issue. I guess I'm not remembering something I read about ten years ago. I just got done reading the article, and it fills in some of the details that the youtube video left out, like how many hits it took to put some of these hoodlums down for the count. Lance Thomas is a great example of the modern American armed citizen. I'm glad this topic came up, because he is certainly worth watching and reading about and learning from. Planning, preparation and proper practice seem to be key to surviving violent encounters.
