S&W 1911 - Opinions please?

by Mark @, Sunday, December 18, 2011, 07:54 (4723 days ago)

I am thinking about upgrading my 1911. While I didn't want to spend $1500, the local gun store has what appears to be a fine S&W PC 1911. My friend has a similar model and loves it. I shot his and I liked it as well. One gun hardly seems like a good basis for a decision. Does anyone have an opinion of their S&W 1911? Does anyone have a comment on S&W's idea to use an external extractor? I don't carry a 1911. It would have ranger duty with me (IDPA and target shooting).
Thanks in advance,

S&W 1911 - Opinions please?

I can't say that I've ever seen a returned S&W 1911. External extractors are used by/in all sorts of designs without problems. Simply being an external extractor isn't a bad thing. Again, I've not seen one come into the shop for being broken or failing to work.

there carry guns. As Hobie noted the external extractor is not a bad thing. Look at all the Hi-Powers, or Some of Bill Wilson's guns.
I haven't shot my Gunsite tuned S&W enough to judge it as "better" than a Colt, but I will report back as soon as I do.

Nice looking gun. I don't recall seeing the magazine warning on the model that I was looking at.
Thanks for the opinions and input.
