One of the other pilots in my son's unit made this video. They are doing a lot of resupply to the FOBs with tactical airlift, to reduce road convoys and IED KIAs and WIAs.

is one helluva plane. We made jumps from c-119's, c-130's and c-141's. I liked the C-130 the best. It could fly slow at 800 ft, which put us on the ground quickly..

unlike Bud, i NEVER got out of an airplane before it parked, well, save mebbe a few helicopter inserts. When i was S-2/3 of the MACV Team, 130's made supply runs with POL and ammo for our tiny strip/re-arm point; they almost never landed, just cruised slow down our strip and presents rolled out the back like eggs out a hen! VN's couldn't fathom the meaning of the red flags waved by the ARVN MP's and would continue to bicycle or drive their xeHondas down the strip while the 130's came through; then one day a VN on his red xeHonda had an intimate moment with a spinning prop. Messy doesn't begin to describe the left overs.

This new J model 130 is really a whole new aircraft. The electronics are such that they went from a 5 man crew on the older models to a 3 man crew on the J model. New engines and props make more power, better fuel economy, and better performance. And they stretched the fuselage for more cargo capacity.
He's done all sorts of flying over there, from landing on dirt strips to air drops to aeromedical evacuations.
